Any of you ND ranchers going to the Schaff Angus Ranch sale Sat. We ordered one bull from them this year. A few years ago we got a couple and they turn out pretty good. I was a little worry about bring them this far south but the heat didn't hurt the to bad.

We got an order bull ftom them a couple of years ago and was pretty wel pleased.
The bull came in right after the sale on the semi were several going into oklahoma and some as far as Houston Texas. They were loaded in the belly of the pot. The top of the pot was delvered north of me If those bulls at that time were order bulls the Texas bulls were pretty slick haired wondering how they handeled ND ( that different from the rest). They team drove it and were honking on

Called up there Bob Schaff is answering the phone and taking orders as of thursday and friday.
An a breeder for Alabama called me twice he has been up there since thursday and said the heifers were very good. He has bought there before and was pleased. Hope you have budgeted well.. As you know thats no joke free delivery mine came to the sale barn 15 miles from the house.

I hope Schaffs have a great day. I think Kelly is a class guy...I have never bought any cattle from him, but I know others who have and can honestly say I have never heard a complaint. One of my friends has twin baby girls and she always says she hopes her girls grow up to be like Kelly's.

One of the nicest things I've ever gotten to do is team judge a show with Kelly. It is a true pleasure to work with him. We judged a Jr. show together and he treated every kid like they were the king or queen of the continent and like their animal just won the national championship, whether they had the winner or were lower placed. I personally thought Kelly's actions showed his class and professionalism. I learned a lot that day, and appreciate how Kelly treated our youth. I only wish all judges were like Kelly, and I hope I am too!

Good luck today Kelly. Your hardwork will pay off.

Cheers---

TTB

PS Another outstanding ND Angus breeder, Tokach Angus has their sale Monday in Mandan. Their sale is on DV Auction. Tokaches are great folks and I hope they have an awesome sale too.

I've worked with seed stock producers for many, many years and I put Kelly Schaff among the top. He knows what he is doing, pays attention to details and does what he says he will do. I imagine that is just how he runs his ranch.

A couple other producers that stood out for me were: Molly Hoff and
Kent Robbins dad, gosh, now I can't remember his name. Double Fork Red Angus was the ranch name. They raised Red Angus in the Bitterroot Valley and then in Dillon. We did a full-page ad for him once and of course, he always used red on his ads. Well, our ad came back BLUE.

Yes, BLUE. (printer made a bad mistake)

I was sick to my stomach, thinking about having to call him and tell him, but I had to do it. Such a gentleman, he said, "Well, that' ok, maybe someone will read it that didn't read the red one." Most producers would hand you your head on a plate making that kind of mistake. I never, ever forgot his kindness. And he paid for his ad to boot. :P

Molly Hoff was another one that you didn't have to run down. Even if she was in Denver, which she was a lot of the time, when ad deadline was near, she ALWAYS called to tell you where the ad would be. It is such a joy to work with these kind of folks. Not everyone is as careful about their advertising and it makes it hard on the ad rep because you are caught between the producer and the publication deadline.

Anyhow, time to say "THANKS" to everyone who is diligent about getting their ads in on time. The publications can do better by you, too, so it's really a win-win situation.

Doug and Molly Hoff , Kurt, Kelly and now Bob Schaff are the Angus Breed

I went through the bulls yesterday and it was a very impressive set of bulls and heifers. I visited a little Kelly, Marty, Kurt and Joe and they were all very nice and inviting. Pen after Pen the cattle looked good. You can't help but be impressed.

I stole this off one of the Angus sites from a Canuck that was apparently there:

500 bulls averaged $6490. 150 Net Worth sons averaged over $9200. Bismark sons averaged over $11000. Top flush cow at $70,000 most from 10 to 25K. Top King at $34000 but over all not the best average or the worst. Top bull was a Mandan out of Four Seasons dam for $92500. Heifer calves at just over $4000. Heavy Hitters full sister had alot of white but still brought $20000.
Lots going to Canadians. We purchased, Soo Line, Peak Dot, YoungDale and a few others.
We missed the lot 22 bull. we gave an honest try but it was getting pretty steep and I don't think the other guy was about to stop.
I think there is still some optimism out there and its great to witness. We can witness it closer to home Monday at Dunc's sale. I think he should be able to top this sale

Well we was out of the ball park at this year sale. I can't believe people puting out that kind of money with the prices we get for our calves today. It just don't add up to spend 75,000 to 80,000 for a bull you put crossbred cows and sale the calves at the sale barn at 500 lbs for .90 to 1.00 per lbs. :?

I think I may get into raising all natural beef and sale the yearlings straight to the public on the hoof for slaughter. I have some friends doing this and are doing pretty good.

But I am happy for them to get this kind of money.

I'm sure the high price bulls were bought by semen comanies to sell semen on, doubtful they'll be running with commercial cows in a pasture anytime soon........

Yes. SAR is Joe Schaff and SAV is Kelly Schaff.
They are related but different breeders. Joe is older, Kelly is much
younger.

I found this honoring Joe Schaff and some other breeders.

The American Angus Association® Board of Directors selected five individuals for induction to the Angus Heritage Foundation. Each year, a select group of individuals who have made significant contributions by dedicating their time, knowledge and efforts to the improvement and advancement of the Angus breed are inducted into the Heritage Foundation.
The 2008 inductees include Minnie Lou Bradley, Memphis, Texas; Joseph S. Schaff, Bismarck, N.D.; Robert Schlutz, Columbus Junction, Iowa; and Richard Wilson, Saint Joseph, Mo. Roy Wallace formerly of Plain City, Ohio, was inducted posthumously.
