Serious calf Conditioning Problem -- help!!

Our problem "child" -- can't keep weight on him

Nice pictures, mtn_90. I do hope you can bring that poor calf out of his troubles. Usually when they get to arching their back like that, it's about all over. Maybe if you roped him you could doctor him, but finding a bit of hide loose enough to vaccinate it subcutaneously could prove to be a problem. :wink:

Looks like you're taking good care of Black Bart. With all of that greenery and good eating, ol' Bart probably thinks he died and went to heaven.

I guess Doc is sure to bring up that the black calf is ''post legged'' and has no butt :lol: He told us all that this was going to happen to the breed :shock: Please do not breed this calf as the offspring will be ''chips off of the old block'' :wink: PS he will probably not marble enough to make CAB without early ''creep'' feeding. I would sugest you add some linseed oil to the ration to see if you can get some shine to his coat!

Thanks for all the quick replies on the calf problem...tried to vaccinate, couldn't get the needle in anywhere...tried the linseed oil and he just drooled it down his neck...don't have any Vigortone mineral :shock: so don't know if that would work (know anyone who has any???)..."made" him lower his head and he just won't eat...did find quite a few nails in him though...appears to be the only think holding that poor calf together at the moment...as for breedin, ...I think he might be done in....LOL.

Black Bart is doing real good and he does like his green grass!! (as do all our pregnant geldings... :lol: :wink: ) He's pretty easy to catch as well, few miles around the pasture and hubby usually has him about caught...lol..just kidding...
