Should we give this place a funeral?

Help Support Ranchers.net:

Thought maybe I better join before this forum receives a virtual cremation. Not ranching anymore and doing just what it takes to stay alive and afloat. I never was a bull rider other than trying it once and realizing the possibility for injury would limit my ability to work. I decided that writing bull is easier and safer as long as I don't get flagged by the anti cattle tofu folks . I really don't have much to contribute, but have to make several post before I can give y'alls post the emotions they deserve.

Just read this entire thread. I didn't go check out Steer Planet. Somehow that name doesn't have the ranch appeal to me. Planet of the Steers just doesn't work for ranchers since even from a very young age we know how steers come to be and it isn't from a magical appearance on a mystical planet.

Also merge with Cattle Today and the new merged tri forum could be called No Bovine Cajones Today Net. Has a woke feel, no? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

My personal opinion is it takes a lot of balls to be a rancher today, something not found on The Planet of the Steers. :sneaky:

That's right. Ranching is a lot of work and takes a lot of faith and perseverance.
For sure! Just think about what it takes to be a rancher. It is much more than showing cattle, rodeo, riding horses, petting the dog, or shooting the bull at the auction. One has to be knowledgable about livestock, equipment, mechanics, carpentry, vet disciplines, bookkeeping, law, finances, nurse skills, food storage and prep, weather, and the list goes on. Even with all the modern convienences and equipment, it requires a discipline that most folks don't have. Of course wealthy ranch owners can hire everything done, but that isn't the kind of folks that I call ranchers.

Welcome to ranchers.net. Or what is left of it.
We like humor so don't be bashful.

Looking over this forum this morning, as the local rooster crows without mercy for the over sleepers, I am feeling like a firefighter. More correctly, the mop up crew.

I guess the flames of ranching banter have been dowsed by the lure of Big Lying Money I.E. BLM known as Facebook, and other socialist media. I can't believe that any rancher would post on commie Tik Tok. Just think about the name ... tick tock, tick tock, and then boom!

Where are the forum arsonist these days? I know diesel is expensive, but it doesn't take much with forum drought conditions and a lit match.

I never did show any cattle. Way too old to rodeo anymore. The wife tells me I am too old to ride a horse. So now you are trying to tell me there is more to it than petting the dog and shooting the bull at the auction? My dog really likes being petted. And I only go to the auction 2 days a week because the others are jut too far away.

Wanted your opinion on Itty Bitty. She is due the 30th of October. I had know idea she could get to be so
chunky. Hopefully she really does look okay and I'm not "barn blind". :)

She's in fine shape. ❤️ Chunky is good on her.😊 I see a little red on her wither, which could indicate a shortage of copper, or maybe it's because she has some red influence in her genetics. She looks like a different critter than in the past. (Remember to look at her topline when body condition scoring, not her belly.) Pat yourself on the back for taking such good care of her. You done good. ⭐

For those who are not familiar with Itty Bitty, I decided to embarrass myself with before and after photos.
First picture is of her October 2021. Second is the current picture October 2024.

The other interesting thing with this little cow is the first three years she calved, she required assistance. The calves were all presented correctly, feet and nose visible, but she never went into hard labor or would even attempt to help push the calf out when I would pull. Last year she delivered her calf unassisted and quickly. I do think minerals have played a key role in her unassisted delivery.
I was talking to my vet a year ago about Itty Bitty and she said the only time she had dealt with a cow not going into full labor was with a Jersey, and the cow had to be treated for milk fever three days later. She felt the Jersey not going into labor as she should was caused by the same nutritional deficiency as the milk fever, low calcium levels.
