slam latches for gates

I'm building a new corral at my place and am using those slammer latches in 3 or 4 places. Found a couple leftovers from dad's corral, but I can't find any like them. Looked at Runnings and wasn't real impressed with what they had. Has anyone had a slam latch fail them? I forget the brand but the ones at Runnings are blue. The ones I got from dad are green and are much heavier. The moving parts are about 3/4" thick rather than 1/4" like the new ones. Anyone know of a welding shop in SD that makes thier own?

I made mine. patterned them off the factory built kind. Mine are quit a bit heiver and cheaper (if time doesn' count!).
