I have heard those University reports, too. What I heard is that excessive heat close to calving time will cause some early deliveries, but don't have total recall of it because we are not fall calving and I didn't pay enough attention, tho was mildly interested because I've wondered if some fall calving would work for us.
As i recall, the calves might be a little premature, but not appearing so. They can be somewhat weaker and compromised for survival of winter.
Seems like if they appear reasonably healthy, a little extra care should end with them probably being as big and strong as the others in the herd by spring, shouldn't they? Sure hope so! This weather is misery enough without calving problems, too!
