Solar Water Pumps

I am needing to pump water out of ponds or springs into water tanks for my cows. I am trying to improve the water quality they are getting.

I don't have electricity at these sites so solar seems to be way to go.

With a lage holding tank the pump will only need to deliver a couple of gallons a minute and will only have 10 to 15 feet of head.

Any experience in this area?

I own a solar pump. First thing to do is figure out how much water you need in a day. The one I bought (from Gen-Pro in Rapid City) had a figure for gallons in a day in summer and a lower one for winter. The one I bought was rated at 6000 per day in the summer so if needed I could water 200 head but less would be better. Mine pumps slower with heavy cloud cover but up here it is usually cooler when cloudy. As far as storage goes, just make sure the calves can drink any time they want. My solar pannels are mounted on a steel pipe buried in the ground. I know guys who have them on a trailer but you have to have a ground rod in the event of a lightning strike. Either way is not foolproof but at least you have a chance. I am not sure if you have priced them, but they are expensive.
Good luck and ask if you have any other questions.
