We sold calves at the local auction this morning. A truckload of our home raised 634 wt steers brought $3.24. They were mostly April/May calves, spring and fall vaccinated and had been weaned 45 days. I'm very pleased with the price but wouldn't mind a bit if the market continues going up!

Wow, that is great! We sold some old bred cows wed and they brought $1975.00
I think I started the bidding on them. But I quit when they got to $1900. I did that a lot on Wednesday. You had to have a wallet full to play that day. I got to sneak out with three cows that sold late as singles.

How many do you have left to buy?

People are paying $4000 for 2nd calf pairs with a little bit of name behind them here. There is plenty of wheat, rye, and winter grass to eat in the fields and pastures.Big Brangus and Angus solid mouth cows,10 to 12 years old are selling by the 100's for $2600 if they are long bred.A HS buddy of mine, that drives a truck for a living, says lots and lots of cows are trading hands all over Texas and Oklahoma right now.

There will either be some big smiling or a lot of crying a year from now.

Hopefully it's big smiling. It's overdue.

Got the Thursday auction report this morning in my in box.

For comparison to what deff was getting, there were some notable sales of steers at 623lbs 654lbs.They brought from $2.90 to $2.70 a pound respectively.

Jordan auction in San Saba,Texas. It's an hour further drive for me to sell calves ther, but they always bring at least 15 cents a pound more than the other 2 closer sales to me.Norm is a 25 cent bump to the closer auctions.

Did you get snow? We have friends in Texas that got" of snow!! Of course, it won't last long, but Texas shuts down when it snows.

I guess I should say 1-3/4 hour longer drive because its about 45 minutes longer on the way back when Im empty.

No snow, but all the country was white. All the mesquites and tall, dead grass had ice on them.

I bought 5 pairs from a friend’s estate sale for $4,200 back in May. I bought them for posterity but danged if it didn’t end up being profitable.

We have had such poor breed up on second calvers that we have been picking up some.
No green grass in the spring hasn't helped those young cows cycle
Breed up was poor here on second calvers as well. Likely for the same reasons. Always disappointing to lose those. Seems like once you get them into their second calf they tend to stick around.
