I've worked on and off at stockyards since I was 12 years old-I went and put a couple days in sorting at a couple big yearling sales last week. There's a few things people could do at home would sure make them some money. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to do a little sorting at home-there's a lot less stress and shrink involved then it's got to be done at the yards. Most ranchers can tell steers from heifers and big ones from little ones. I wonder how much bad temperament costs the cattle business-9 weight yearlings richocheting off the walls aren't much fun to deal with-they take extra time and put more shrink on the quiet cattle.
