RICHMOND, Virginia - An executive for an anti-animal cruelty group says her 16-year-old blind and deaf dog died after she accidentally left him in her hot car for four hours.

Robin Starr, the CEO of the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, says she didn't realize "Louie" was in the car until noon. Starr's husband, Ed, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch he put the dog in her car as she got ready for work Aug. 19. She often took the dog to work with her.

Robin Starr took the dog to two clinics, but he died of kidney failure.

The National Weather Service says the temperature had reached 91 degrees by noon that day.

The board of the SPCA says it still supports Starr, who has been CEO since 1997 and does not plan to resign. It was unclear whether she would be charged.

I really dislike hypocrites! And the LEADER of an animal rights group should 1- KNOW BETTER and 2- HAVE RESIGNED IMMEDIATLY!! If you or I did this, Her group would have butchered our character. She better be charged to the maximum and so should her spouse! UNBELIEVABLE!

This is the third dog I've heard of dyin in a car/truck in the last couple weeks.

First one was Martha Josey's rat terrier. It was a total accident. They were at home, went to the truck to get somethin, and didn't realize the dog had jumped in and got in the back seat. They started lookin for him as soon as they noticed him missing. They hadn't been anywhere, so never thought to check the truck. They found him the next day.....sad deal.

The second one was a man that hubby works with, had went and picked up their grandaughter age 7 and their weiner dog to stay the weekend. The got home, grandma told the little girl to get the dog outta the car. The dog wouldn't come to her, so she gave up and shut the door. That evenin at supper, the grandma asked the little girl where the dog was. She said, "Still in the car" by that time it was too late.

You know we can all stand back and judge others for what we think "should" have happened.

I know at first I was MADDER than hail at that woman and her hubby. But then this morning I can only feel sorry for how upset, sad, and angry she must be.
I can only pray she takes this HARD lesson and realizes that all animals that have died this way were NOT abuse. Maybe this is a turning point for the organization and they will add some compassion to the owners now.

The loss of a pet is just as hard as losing a member of the family.

Isn't it funny that the leader of this organization takes it to the vet and it died of "kidney failure"?????

MsSage is right, It is tough losing a pet. But the hypocracy of these animal rights groups is what ticks me off! I ranch and sell calves. I work hard at giving folks quality meat at a fair price. I don't picket in front of vegatarins homes or at carrot factorys! I don't hate lettuce farmers and turn rabbits loose on their fields! I don't put up billboards telling folks that grapefruits have rights or any of the hundreds of other over-the-top things groups do to people in agriculture! This woman is the head of an anti-animal cruelty group and she KILLED HER OWN DOG! She needs to resign, apologize and do way more than what she would have wanted you or I to do if we did what she did! BECAUSE she runs SPCA! That's why these organizations drive me nuts! They are all hypocrites! They kill insects driving their cars! They live in houses made of timber or steel that effected the enviroment! They still think they are better and smarter and preach how bad we are, and then they do stuff like this and what i listed above! It shows they have ZERO credibility! Kinda like a smoking President who wants healthcare reform! Quit the cancer sticks and then come talk to me!
