Speaking of pickup trucks

If that's as much weight as it will have to haul the F-150 Ecoboost is a great truck. I got one for my wife and we really like it. She hauls 200 gallons of water (a ton) home from town regularly and you hardly know it's there. We live an hour from town over some very steep hills and a lot of gravel. It gets good mileage and a crazy amount of power. Zero problems with it so far, but only 45,000 kms on it.

Ford is coming out with a new option, heated tailgates,

that way your hands stay warm while you push the vehicle home.

I just got this for my daughter as kind of a graduation present. She has completed her enlistment in the USMC reserves and graduated IUPUI and is now working.

I offered her a car but my little redneck wanted a 4X4 - - - around here a bowtie is standard.

She is single but wanted to haul my son's kids around so we got an extended cab.

This is a 2010 but at about 1/4th the price of new and seems to be a very good light truck.

I'm sure a ton would not even be noticed - - - if she needs something heavier on occasion between my son and I we should have her covered.

I know a couple people that have a new ecoboost. The very best they can get for mileage is about 14 mpg.

Hmm... My wife gets about 11 liters per hundred empty (about 20 mpg)
When I drive it it gets way worse mostly because it's too danged fun

I drove diesels for years, then switched to a 2007 GM half ton last February. With my oilfield job I was tired of the maintenance of the diesel. Seemed like everything was $1,000 repair, and every service cost $250 or more. I've put 80,000kms/50,000 miles on in 1 year, and have had no issues. Consistently get 20mpg, service costs are $100 or less each time, and it rides like a Caddy.

FWIW Katrina, we haul 1000# easily in our Yukon 1500 (even though I'm not a DIE HARD GM person :P  ) so a GM 1500 should haul a ton just fine.

I will say that the Yukon has something that was called 'air ride' and when you load it you can hear/feel the shocks as they rise to keep the load even.
It's pretty nifty.

Some friends of ours traded their 2013 Chev 1/2 ton pickup in for a Suburban. There wasn't anything wrong with the pickup; they just didn't like it. I can find out where they traded if that would do you any good.

I delivered a ton of mineral in my Ford Escort one time. I figured It would haul 5 big Walmart honeys so pound for pound it was a no brainer besides fuel is expensive.

If your looking at a plain Jane, good seat, roll up windows, 4x4 on a knob,2 door, I would check new as you may be surprised at the price.
Maybe 20k?

The 2010 I bought my daughter was a fleet lease turn in with about 75,000 miles on it and all service records as everything was done at the dealership - - - they had about 10 to choose from, all with records, all loaded the same, all the same color and ranging from 75,000 miles to 100,000 miles.

After all the haggling I got it got down to $11,995 with 25,000 miles left on the warranty and I got them to throw in 3 free services (oil and filter changes, and lube )and they will detail it one time at her convenience when the weather gets better.

It seems to be a great truck so far and a new one was about 4 times that and you can't hardly tell it from new.
