I read the "judge these bulls" topic from MyTfarm. I really like the Muridale cattle. I am sure I will own one of their bulls in the future. Due to the color bias of the buyers, we are breeding for solid red. That said, some of my favorite Shorthorn bulls are roan or even white. OT didn't know if there were any Shorthorns left in MT. If I can figure out this picture deal, I'll post a few of ours. Soapweed made the point that uniform colored cattle in larger groups will sell the best. I can't argue that due to the mindset of order buyers. It is unfortunate, as good cattle are good cattle. Crossbreeding works. Shorthorns are well documented for their maternal excellence. Shorthorns and SH 'x make excellent cows if that is how they've been selected. Sadly, due to the showring influence, a lot of phenotypically ideal cattle with less than ideal "real world" value have been propagated.
We know our cattle add great value to progressive crossbreeding programs. Feel free to comment!

I thought I'd followed the directions carefully, but the only way I can open them is to copy and paste in the browser. If one of you more computer savvy folks could help, it would be appreciated.

You must be a minority in the state, Durham reds- a shorthorn producer...
Nice looking cows- I sure used to like those old roanies.. But like you said the buyers are all on color now...Some years when they really want cattle- they will take any color and never say a word...Then years like this one where they were looking for anyway to get out of their contracts- or dock the price- they found white where I didn't think white could exist- and used it to cut back cattle.... I've accused a couple of carrying a white paint can in their pockets...
