The calves enjoying the sun. Taken from the back steps.

The cows coming down for hay. Not much open ground. YET.

I put out two days hay. Usually they all come where I start and I put out the second days 3/4 mile away but today was nice and the cows lazy so some were waiting for me where they cleaned up yesterdays feed.

Some of the wild bunch wintering in the hills.

The horses that hang around the yard.It was so sunny I couldn't see thru the view finder. I just pointed and clicked. I didn't even see the horse rolling as I was trying to see the pheasants. :)

Very nice, BMR. Some pretty country. Do them wild ponies eat plenty of feed?

The ones in the hills paw for their supper and the ones around the yard BEG :-)

Oh, OK. They look halfway gentle. Although, I am sure that ain't the case.

Glad to hear you had a sunny day :D . That's smart to put two days worth of feed out at once. It would blow away here though if I tried that  . Yesterday I saw my first blue bird, so spring must be right around the corner  . Usually don't see them until the first week in March.

Oh they are all fairly gentle. The ones in the hills are mostly the saddle horses and a couple of brood mares. The ones around the yard are some young ones a couple of saddle horses and a old team.

Big Muddy, have you ever considered changing your handle to Big Snowy??

Of course after the snow melts it will be muddy, and mud is a good and necessary thing!

Spring WILL come and by the looks of that snow spring comes with ........ fencing!

Good news about the Blue birds. My kids used to watch for them when getting on the school bus. They always had to run into Grandpa and Grandma's and tell them.Dad keeps track in his diary when they show up. I will have to ask him what the earliest them have been here. I know we sometimes do get some rough weather after they show up but it is encouraging to see them. :-)

Saw our first spring bird yesterday, a starling.
Another different happening is there were crows here all winter. Anyone else notice the same thing? Ravens are here all year but crows have always migrated south.

I think all your birds migrated here,as they seem to winter all year long.Magpies, hawks, eagles, woodpeekers, crows & ravens, robins, etc. The Canadian geese have been here all winter also guess they've adapted to the climate of winter here or where to lazy to continue on down

gcreek, keep the crows down there!! I hate those things, they're way to noisy :? . Maybe you could start pingin' them off before they start heading this way  . Friends of mine have a northern pygmy owl at their place. Never seen those around this area before. They've got some pretty good pictures of it :) .
