This afternoon I took a hike out to the cows. I thought it was warmer than it was, and didn't put enough layers on... just had to walk faster, and climb more hills to stay warm :D .

Let the afternoon adventure begin!

There's a little snow in the draws, but more is needed :-) .

Does Toadflax ever go completely dormant??? No wonder it's impossible to kill :? .

I fed the cows in a good sheltered spot out of the wind today.

Dogs patiently waiting as I walk through the cows :-) . They were better dressed for the hike than I was  .

Janet Reno enjoying her hay  . Jim thinks she looks like a slough-footed camel, but I say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all we all have our share of cosmetic flaws  .

Out of the wind and in the sun, life doesn't get much better than this!

Here she is, the heifer I kept last fall by default. No ears, lump on a back foot, and a bad attitude... this should be interesting calving her out :D .

One of my favorite conformation cows in the herd. Now that I've complemented her, she's destined to screw-up, but hopefully not! :D

One of my pet deer waiting in the yard for me when I returned :? I noticed they ran by my house while I was eating lunch... apparently I wasn't the only one dining over the noon hour. I think it was killed south of my house, and had been dragged into my yard while I was gone on my hike :? .

Greta picture, Looked like a nice day for walk even if it was on the cool side. :D

Here the snow is deep in the brush ,along the coulees and over the edges of the hills. Just wind blown enough to make it miserable.

What got the deer? A '' Putty-Tat" maybe or ' Yotes?

I assume a kitty cat... wind had blown the tracks full of snow, but the tracks appeared to be too large and spaced too far apart for a coyote.

Great pictures...wasn't as warm as yesterday eh? Don't think I'd like a cat dragging a deer into my yard!

I don't like it! I've had lion kill deer near my house before, and it makes you think twice during night calving :? . People have been hunting cats in the area, but unfortunately with the housing developments, the cats are getting used to people, and the tasty pets they bring with them  .

I had a lion hunter tell me once not to worry about them... they were probably watching me 90% of the time, and if they wanted to eat me, it would be a quick death... . In the 12+ years of living here, I've yet to see one lion, only see tracks and kills. Hopefully we've got enough game to keep them full  .

Beautiful pictures, nice brand on the favorite cow, what do you call it?

I've always called it an "O Slash O", others call it "that reverse percentage sign brand" :-) , and yet others have called it "target practice" when they aim to shoot at our cattle on the forest permit :x .

You jinxed that cow now. Not only you did you say she was a favorite but you took a picture of her and showed it. Shes a gonner for sure!

Oh gee, that's comforting isn't it?

WR, we have a friend that lion hunts and he says the same thing, doesn't make me feel any better either! I guess walk softly and carry a big stick? I'm jealous of your "brown" thats what I was hoping for this year! sigh,

Now now, it's only a problem if you're being stalked or attacked  . I got more of a scare two winters ago when we discovered a college kid, strung out on drugs, walking on the south side of the canyon. He had to have walked within yards of my house on his drug-induced journey from Laramie to Cheyenne. We told him to keep walking and called authorities. He ended up down in Happy Valley, knocking on people's doors and screaming at them, finally being arrested. Where's a lion when you need one???

Yeah, I'll take a lion over a crazy person any day of the week! :D

Nice pics. A great looking area your in. I'm glad your not letting a kitty or two cramp your style. :D
