I have real dumb questions.. I've never seen kelpies before. My question is are they more of a head dog than a herder??? Some dogs are gathers and some are more head to turn and gate watchers right??
Great pictures...

Kelpies are really a lot like Border Colies.. I mean seriously... Same foundation stock of "working" colie and all of that. The BC was just developed in Scottland and the Kelpie in Australia... There are headers and healers and ones with real nice gahtering ability and drivers and ones that will work yards vs paddocks and whole bunches of things..

I worked mine with a BC person and actually almost sold my girl to her but she was looking to sell her herself and just couldn't get the interest of the black and white crowd. She thought the Kelpies had some benifts that the BC's didn't have (More willing to mix it up) and a bit more independant minded but they also tended to work a bit tighter than maybe they had too.. Probably my fault

I love that girl dog of mine but she just... argh... Too much dog for me... More instinct than brains.

My dog trainer friend has been crossing his BC's with Kelpies the last few years...he says it gives them just a little bit of grit to go with the brains. But, until I saw one at his place I hadnt seen one before. I like the action shots...very cool.

my dogs don't always rip and tare like that but thats what he wanted to take pic's of
taz is very aggressive when he needs to be but will ease sheep or a baby calf along with kid gloves also
