It's basically over. No more late night pulls, or early morning babes. Calving is 99% finished. I have one more to wait for and it will be the end of another season. To all of you still walking through the muck in the middle of the night I pose just one question. Am I crazy to be sad that it's over?

Sad thing is, I have no horses foaling this year either. What's a girl to do? Guess I should start training what I have...

I don't think you're crazy at all. I feel it's more like a let down after working that hard all spring. I took panels down in the calving corrals yesterday, and felt the same way. I really get that feeling in the fall after I ship the calves.

So much time and effort is put into planning for a successful calf crop, and the build up to calving, worrying about the weather and how things are going to go worry a person every year. I think it's always a relief, but somewhat of a let down to have calving over with.

However, I'm excited to get going on other projects which have been waiting for my attention during the LONG winter. I know after I get the cows worked today, I'm planning to tear out my alleyway leading to the chute and rebuild it.
