When buffalo started coming into Wyoming, Denny, a big outfit
bought some. We had a real good friend that worked on that ranch and
he was a terrific hand.
When they unloaded the buffalo, they unloaded the bull first.
Big mistake. When he hit the corra fence, he just kept on going.
Right through the fence and he got away. Next day our friend
and some of the ranch hands set out to get the buffalo. They
couldn't get him to cooperate, so they roped him...around the
neck...and killed him. Seems buffalo have a fragile windpipe,
only no one knew that back then, and when the rope went tight,
it broke his windpipe.
Kind of an expensive lesson.
