POSSIBLY there is some hope of getting new refineries now.
People in a county in south east SD voted decisively to allow zoning changes to allow a refinery to be built there, fed by a pipeline coming from Canada down through eastern SD.
This is a different pipeline that will come through western SD from MT.
Still, it has to be a long time from successful elections to an operating refinery and doubtless the Luddites will be out in full force to stop it 'by hook or by crook', as the saying goes.
Native Americans already are fussing that the pipeline will probably be routed over "sacred ground", so they won't allow it......but when asked, admitted they don't know WHERE the pipeline is proposed to go........nor where that "sacred ground" actually is!!!????
I have read that many existing refineries HAVE been remodelled over these years of "no new refineries" decreed by the 'Mother Earth' worshipping Eco-freako's. It's fortunate we have gotten more fuel out of the old ones. Obviously, more needs to be done.
Putting another dollar tax on gasoline is sure not the answer, and daily more people are calling for that. How difficult can it be to understand that when something is taxed more you get less???? We CANNOT 'conserve' our way out of this problem!
If taxing to cut gas prices was valid, why have they not proposed high taxes on health care, education, and more 'problems'????
Someone else on this site, or another I've seen, forget where.....wrote that oil is the fuel of freedom. That fact most likely is the reason liberals want less of it.
