Oldtimer said he posted the fear mongering articles about Human version of MAD COW in Canada as to inform the Canadian producers to what our media is saying so we can do something about it, and he is not doing it to spread the misinformation only to inform us of a media problem :?
Quotes from Oldtimer
But we have a big problem with the world press that can't be helping consumer demand...Everything is being put out as connected to "MAD COW Disease"....I'll post another headline I found today- altho this one comes from medindia.com......
Tam- It looks to me like you should be more worried about your Canadian consumers than any down here-- as it looks like you have a Canadian press run amuck with the MAD COW and human MAD COW stories...Which you probably wouldn't have known about if I hadn't brought it to your attention (no thank you's for keeping you informed necessary ).. Or do you prefer it that way- Hear No Evil, See No Evil

It appears to me that either you have some journalists that are hyping things to sell newspapers- that I thought maybe Canadian cattlemen would be interested in trying to do something about (You can thank me later for bringing this to your attention- since I know you are not one that would want to remain ignorant

Oldtimer stated we have a big problem with World press that can't be helping consumer demand but does he do anything to stop the attention grabbing headlines from a media that has run amuck and hyping to sell newspapers. Certainly not when he can send copies of these articles to his Senators and Congressmen to further R-CALF's agenda.

Actually I don't think I have to-- your Canadian journalists are doing a better job for me on showing how Canadian imports are affecting demand...I've just been sending copies of these articles to my Senators and Congressman- to fast track COOL- and if USDA doesn't close the feedban loopholes, to again go over them and throw out the Final Rule on OTM's.....
Way to clean up the misinformation of the world press OLDTIMER What makes me think you don't send your Senators and Congressmen the rest of the story that has to be post by someone else to keep us on ranchers informed on the whole issue. So much for an R-CALFer using the truth to get what he wants when false media hype can fast track your agenda.

Tammy- I thought you said you didn't want to know of these dastardly things? Are you sure it won't blur your Rose colored glasses :???:

Just as I want you and the Canadian producers on this board to know-- I also want my Congressman and Senators to know what the Canadian press is talking about so they can be more aware of the situation....Whether you want to admit it or not-- its happening....

Did you get anyone you might happen to know from a Canuck Cattlemans group to look into all these guys?? Or call them on their stories??? Or did they just say Saskatchewan Stock what? A Big Beaver where?

Oldtimer did you do anything about that MONTANA article that stated all three US BSE positive cattle hailed from Canada? Or was that another case of the truth hurting your fast tracking agenda? :?

OT is working overtime now that the dems have taken over. After all, R-CULT is the Democratic party of the cattle industry. Their success depends on finding sympathetic liberals who share their anti corporate victim mentality.

Anyone who calls themselves a conservative and supports R-CULT is a hypocrite.

Thanks for your note.

I would like to make a couple of points.

The headline in our paper this morning on my story as "Hospital on defensive" which I thought was fair and hardly sensational given the fact the hospital had cancelled all surgeries and medical procedures.

At any rate, as a reporter I have no input into headlines, either the ones on our website or in the newspaper.

The reference to the "human form of mad cow disease" was made by the hospital officials at the press conference in describing the possible case of CJD. It was not something I injected into the story.

With that statement made at the opening of the press conference by the president of the hospital, however, I thought it was important to ask if this was classical CJD or the variant form and we reported their answer in full that it almost certainly was classical.

As a livestock producer who suffered substantial losses after the BSE case was diagnosed in Alberta, I am acutely aware that much is at stake if this turns out to be the variant form.

All the best in Saskatchewan. I worked in your fine province for much of the 1980s for the Regina Leader-Post and still miss the wide open spaces.

I will pass it on to our on-line editor here. Seeing the Canoe source for the story on your e-mail I expect the headline you saw was actually written by an editor in Toronto or Montreal. We are owned by Sun Media, which owns Canoe, which means our copy gets shipped to them and they add their own headlines and sometimes re-edit the story.

We have had stories that preliminary internal tests at the hospital have been negative for CJD. Final word is expected today from the Public Health Agency of Canada.

I have had a number of responses to the story, including outraged vegetarians who accused of us downplaying any possible link to BSE. I also received an e-mail from the Ontario Cattlemen's Association thanking me for the balanced coverage.

I am guessing you wouldn't have had access to all the stories I did, which included a primer on CJD that spelled out the difference between classical and variant. I could forward them to you by e-mail if you wanted to see them.

CJD not CJV How many years have we been talking about this.

Don't call it the human version of Mad Cow. Call it Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease or CJD for short.

I know people say that but it's misleading.

Do you feel better now that you got that off your chest Reader

Now put down the glass of wine and go back and read the post again I was not the one calling it that the Canadian Media was . In fact, I have emailed a few people to see what we can do as an industry to stop our media from using this misleading media quote. It's just to bad Oldtimer doesn't have enough integrity not to use these misleading attention grabbing headlines to push his fast tracking trade stopping agenda by his Senators and Congressmen.

And Reader wasn't it you that first came on here and tried to link the two by telling us how your husband died of Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease and that is the reason your kids will not eat beef anymore?

Here you go SSAP-If you want to contact them, you can use your own nickel...We've been holding your hand and wiping your nose for 12+ years- about time to grow up and do something on your own....

You (and others) saw no need to pull your head out when Gilles line fit in with your scheme to further discredit Canadian cattle and beef. There are a few of you who like to ride the shirttails of lies.

yes I am 'board' member - bored of the posts on here that are for one reason only - to mislead Americans.

Contrary to the lies and innuendo spouted off by some US individuals and groups Canadian beef is a safe, quality product.

Won't be the first time  but I do think sympathy cards should be like the cards in a deck only played once as playing the same card to many times leaves the others wondering if you are playing with a full deck.

As for you, you're merely a mindless cheerleader, who knows why you choose to cheer lead instead of thinking for yourself. But hey, go mules.

Ow-ow-ow OW-ow-OW-OW-OUCH!

I am so hurt by your well-thought-out assault.

I think you are past the PMS stage, or does that never go away for some?

If you are so superior to us poor farmers and ranchers why do you bother coming to this board at all?

You must surely know by now that we are an incorrigible, simple-minded bunch who are hopelessly ineducable. Yes, just "followers!

Or, perhaps you find yourself so terribly outclassed in your usual environment that you like to come into this rural based forum in order to wow the members with your questionably "superior" , urbane intellectual capabilities on us poor country folks.

Maybe to feed your obviously insatible appetite for self-congratulation on some who you think are easliy fooled?

If your condescending, contentious attitude makes you unwelcome in your own circles, why do you think it would have a different impact here.

When I first came to know you through this board, I thought, "This woman needs towels, not a hanky!" But I never called you on it. Now you are accusing others of being sympathy suckers?

Get a grip, girl, and butt out.

Maple Leaf, why don't you butt out?

I happen to agree with reader.

Oh yes R2, I was only able to come up with that post because my mommy was standing at my shoulder telling me what to say to you.

I actually like you. She is the one who doesn't. So sorry.

You know, Econ, it's fine that you agree with her. Sometimes I do too, and at others I disagree. I don't hold it against you or anyone else for that.

However, I object to someone who treats others with the obvious disdain that R2 likes to fling around. Kinda like a cat. It's all about the cat.

She has repeatedly shown that she is incapable of politely countering a position or opinion that repudiates what she says. So she responds with sarcasm or cynicism. That merely exposes her fragility.

The remedy is to get a grip. Failing that, butt out!
