one of the range flocks up on the mountain here were short a few ewes when the bedded down for the afternoon. The herder could hear a sheep bell but it sounded funny, they rode out with dogs and rifles Toward the ringing only to ride into a small clearing a bear had ate most the ewe and was holding up the head and hide and was playing with the bell. they did tree the bear with the dogs and killed it. Think other wise it just fallow the dinner bell as they moved the sheep.

bears & wolves do have a bell you just need to hit the ringer .
One time on a red oak ridge I found about a hundred ft circle of flat grass in the middle of it laid a rectangular glass fuel filter from a piece of logging equipment it sparkled in the sunshine , A bear had spent a bit of time there playing with his new toy .
