Haven't written much for awhile, have to be inspired by some event/happenings. Gues that this second deployment/dealing with a daughter in law that I don't know that well that is missing hubby fits that category.

MY HERO
In this life we are now living, things seem to have gone astray,
Nothing is as it should be, there's nothing but moral decay.
All of our children worship, heathens and some big sports superstars,
The all mighty green dollar, expensive clothes and shiny cars.

Might be that I have aged, there's some grey around the dome,
Could be that my kids, one by one, are leaving our happy home.
Maybe it just could be, I grew up totally in a dark cloud
Or maybe it could be, I've been running with a different crowd.

I have come to view things different, getting on into this life,
Might be the constant aging, or the very persistence of the wife.
Right here is my confession, I won't hide it from anyone,
For all the world to see, my one and greatest hero, has to be my son.

He by his own doing has chosen, quite unselfishly you see
To protect America and our families, that is us, you and me.
He has grown into quite a good man, clad in camo green,
He has chosen to be one of the few, a United States Marine.

My son takes his duty serious, sworn to protect us one and all,
He does it with great confidence, yet keeps his ego small.
We will never understand the hardships, that they tend to hide,
They are trained to suck it up, and take it all in stride.

They are always the first to fight, the Devil Dogs one and all,
They are very special people, who have answered to this call.
Reaching the end of the Crucible, is more than most men can do,
These young men and women have done it, the least we can say is "thank you".

For all of the hardship and sacrifices, their time away from home,
For being in harms way for us, my respect for them has grown.
That is why I shake the hand, of every uniformed man or woman that I see,
Cause' these are real heros, not some movie star playing one on TV.

Knowing that my back is covered, by those who can wear dress blue,
Gives me great comfort, and peace of mind comes with it too.
For I know who is out there, guarding our way of life,
I know my daughter will be safe, as well as me and my wife.

So there you have it, my heros have all earned the EGA,
I have gained another family, wouldn't have it any other way.
When my life is all over, and my time on earth is gone,
Hopefully I will be looking down on my hero, Lance Corporal John.

Awesome way of putting it!

One of our best friends sons just left for Marine Boot Camp a few days ago....am glad that they got to spend a number of days down here this past bird season, hunting and hanging out together.

Thanks to you and your son. While we thank our soldiers, sometimes one forgets what their families give too.

Long story, nicky.....son is home on medical discharge   Found a job in the oilfields in north dakota, but wishes he could have staying in the army!! Demodriver joining up came as a surprise, but she is considerably stronger (emotionally) than her "big" brother and will do just fine!! Is looking at military police or air medic (sorta like being a civilian paramedic on a life-flight). Will find out today when she will be shipping out!!

Kris, let us know what Gussie had going on so we can support her in this new endeavor. She is an amazing kid and she will do just fine, with a little cheerleading from the bench!!!!!! I applaud her choice, when I talked to her at Christmas she never said anything like this at all, but I like her choice and I will cheer her on all the way. Now I can put another line on my MarineParents avatar, VPBF Recruit Demodriver USAF
