Thresherman's Reunion

Took a day off yesterday to go to the Thresherman's Reunion in Austin Manitoba (not Texas :cboy: ) Here's some pics of the threshing race. It was a steam outfit against a gas outfit. To thresh four racks of oat sheaves took a little over 7 minutes. These guys have some fast Belgians!

Those are cool!!! :-) :-) Ive watched it done in a field, at harvest. and from the wagon, but i was like 8 i didnt know they had compitions!

I really wanted to go to Austin, mabye next year! :)

They do this every day just after the big parade of steam engines. There's a rodeo at night, and all kinds of things going on all day. Anything run by steam is there. We try not to miss it if possible. You really should try hard next year to make it. :D :D :D

Hubby is partial to the cinnamon buns baked in the outdoor clay oven. :lol: :lol:

Yeah, i hears its good, and id like to see the old tractors and stuff. Hopefully ill make it next year.. mmm cinnamon buns, sound good, ill have to make some tomarrow! :lol:

Do you rember some of the thrashers names?? were there Lanes, or Berrys or Grahams?

Oh, I'm just getting itchy looking at that picture with the chaff!!!

We stopped at the museum a couple of years back on just an ordinary week day, it took us darn near all day to see everything! It's a very nice place, and in a lovely location. I'd go back again.
 
Don't know if there were any Lanes, Berrys or Grahams. They put the teams together from whoever is there.

Most of those involved are the horsemen, with only the engine operators coming from the steam side of things. A lot of the teams come from up our way. We've got quite a few around here who are keeping the old ways going. There is a group that comes in a wagon train after assembling 40 miles away every year, and this year three of the teams started ahead of time and travelled all the way from McCreary before meeting up with the rest. In the hot weather we've had lately it was quite a marathon! Those three teams put in well over a hundred miles. :shock:

The fellow with the red rack pulled by a sorrel and a roan is a good friend of ours. He doesn't drive his truck as fast as he can get these horses to go. :wink: :D :D :D :D :D
