Phine Photos yet again Soapweed. It looks a lot less like winter there than here. Will your hfr calves go to grass for a while yet also?

The heifer calves will be kept here for another week or two and then will spend the rest of the winter at a backgrounding lot about thirty miles away. While still at home they will be on meadow aftergrowth with a little hay for good measure. I will also teach them to eat cake off the ground.

You are a talented bunch! Your branding gizmo oughta be patented and makin' ya dlooar bills like hotcakes. And the wood stove and water heater looks well built and handy as well. I have a cabin tent too but my stove is a take-down model for packing on horses. It heats up a cold tent great until it comes apart around two a.m. and trys to make the tent a smokehouse. That stove is nicer than some folks have in thier homes! As always, your cattle and family look wonderful and your ranch is beautiful. Hope ya know how good ya have it!

That is one cool camp but I would hate to have to frate that stove on horse back.
Thank you for the wonderfull pictures.

Those are really great pictures, there must be some kind of story behind the black horses name.

Clavinova is a breeding stock registered "Ain't Paint" out of a Paint stud and a Paint mare, but he turned out black with blaze face and stocking legs. I bought him at the Black Hills Stock Show horse sale in 1999 when the gelding was just a three-year-old. He cost $1300 at the time, and I will venture to say that of the hundred or so horses sold that day that this horse has had more miles ridden on him than any of those others. Our daughter named the horse when he arrived at our ranch. She said, "He looks just like your Clavinova piano." This has been his name ever since.

Clavinova was bred and raised by Gary Coy of Glenrock, Wyoming. We bought him from Maurice Cotton from Piedmont, South Dakota. He is a wonderful horse with lots of action and cow sense. He is not real big, but can outwalk any other horse on the ranch.
