We seam to have a never ending supply here at the grocery also and no bugs to contend with.

You guys haven't ate Tam's saskatoon pie or had wild Currants in her Butter tarts, or Chokecherry syrup on Pancakes or waffle. Pin cherry or Buffalo berry jelly on toast with side pork.Or Wild raspberries cooked down and topping Ice cream.

I feel sorry for you poor fellows. :(

Not really it just means more for me. :D

Snickers bar.......here in SD during the Rally, candy bars are $2.29 each.

Saskatoons are good here in the spots that didn't get cooked out. Mrs. Silver has been making me pies and shrinking my jeans the last while.

BMR, you sure are blessed to get those wild fruit delicacies! Here in western SD, the GOOD years for berries are the rare event. I did see a very few red buffalo berries this year. Doubt if it was two cups worth. Should have picked them, but we left on a little vacation to see some rodeo's. It was probably a tough call for 'the other half'. It might have been interesting to see which was more important to him, tho.

What are the pin cherries? We have the others you mentioned, but rarely get Juneberries, and something killed most of the buffalo berries a few years ago. Must have been some disease or tiny insect, as we have had plenty of drought to challenge them, and they thrived ever since the floods left this area, it appears. We also have wild plums, and a bumper year for them is a real treat, too. Last year we had a better than average crop, and the raccoons cleaned them all out the night before I was going to pick them! I think there will be some live catch traps set here when they are about ripe, even tho the crop looks a little stunted from early drought before the rains came this year.

We normally have Grapes, Plums, Currants Chokecherries, and Apples. Have not seen a single Grape or Plum this year. The Currants are all gone. Deer get them just as they are starting to turn. Had 3 nice doe right out the front door eating on them. I have seen a couple Chokecherries, but nothing like normal, and there maybe a dozen apples in the trees.
The late frost pretty much cleaned us out.

Thanks, BMR. That was interesting and not seeing Pin Cherries here is probably explained by the fact they don't appear east of the Black Hills (known as the 'banana belt' of SD. Here on the west river plains, it gets COLD, with -56% recorded in a couple places in central SD, and winds often make for very low wind chill temperatures during winter storms. And there is no shortage of wildlife which generally beat us to the berries which do survive.

We have no Saskatoons/June berries, no Chokecherries. No Pin cherries and no Buffalo berries. Tam pick a handful of wild rasberries this morning and I ate about the same amount. :D
For as dry as it has been we have had the best Saskatoon crop in years. Girls picked 9 ice cream buckets full . I thought it would be a disaster but there were lots, chokecherries look good here as well. No hay though . It will be a tough winter with all that pie and no chores to do. Hay is costing the same price as a pound of blueberries
