i'm looking at a 1997 NH 8260 MFWD w/ a NH 850 loader. the tractor has about 4500 hours on it. i'm a JD man, so this could be a scary jump for me, not to mention a severe blow to my pride  anyone know a thing or two about these tractors?
i would love to hear the good, bad and the ugly. (i don't mean i want to hear about myself, H, and BMR either. )

thanks in advance. :)

I would stay green.... You will be able to keep your money together better..IMHO....

   :???:

What!!! Are you a international man??? :D Say it ain't so?

Nope. I'm a "use-whatever-starts-today" man!

But I use blue, red and redder and a green one to cut the grass.

Minimal green keeps the cost down, ya see.

Oh and I sold the green combine last fall . . . :?

Nope don't get it and nope didn't see it.

Gotta go get on the blue one now and cut hay with the red cutting machine!!

do not be affraid of blue. they are tough as deere, and cheaper. fastest way to get wealthy....buy off color equipment, paint it green, put on an auction, and watch the idiots bid it up....

that being said, I just traded for a 7800 deere this winter...I like it so far, but think I would rather have my NH back

We have neighbours that run one. and run, and run and run and run...
I don't know if they even get out or if they change the oil while driving down the road. It has lasted at least 5 years at their place (how many hours in a year?), which is at least twice as good as any tractor I have ever seen...
We are green at home, but I respect the blue after seeing it work down the road...

I have an '98 8160, had it for 10 yrs now, have put almost 6K hrs on it. Came with an Ezee On loader (which I do not recommend)
It's my feeding tractor in the winter, and balin' tractor in the summer. Perfect for balin'!
Had some issues with the fuel pump when I first got it (can't remember the specifics) This past winter, had an issue with the 3-point, water pump went out and they did a 15 point inspection, or whatever. They put a seal in the front end, new brake on the PTO, couple other small things. $4,000
Now I'm getting an error code for, what the mechanic says is an accumilator problem, a $40 item that I should be able to replace.
Things to look out for:
Make sure it has at least 8 ply tires on the front!
Check the springs under the seat, mine broke right away.
Check the clutch spring, that's broke a couple of times, scares the hell outa ya.
Check the glue/glass on the doors. Nice place for rust to form.
Make sure you get the 540 and 1,000 PTO shafts. They bolt onto the same place.
Find out what kind of Hyd oil that's been put in it, and keep it the same. I think it holds 20 gallons. Don't want to replace that.
Good luck!
