Now that basketball is over, I am going to start getting up at a decent hour. I had my alarm set for 6:00, but it went off 15 minutes early. I rolled out, ate breakfast, and then went outside.

I "slung my riggin' " on Jig and rode out after the calves. That little horse needs a lot of riding, which I am in a good position to give her, with calving coming on and everything.

I went back in the house to get ready for school. We took the car.

We sang a real quaint song in Chorus, but I can't recall the title of it. Typing was very uneventful compared to a few classes of late. Mr. Nelson went to Valentine to get his driver's license this morning, so we just chewed the proverbial rag during Geography class. Mr. Card gave us an easy assignment in Geometry. Krotz graded notebooks and recent papers in Biology.

For dinner we had spam, macaroni, buns, green beans, and grapefruit sections. I studied and goofed off during the noon hour.

Just lately there has been some crummy rules and regulations passed around school. For one thing, both boys and girls are not allowed in the gym over noon hour at the same time. This doesn't affect me much, but some of the kids are kind of riled. Also, if it is hot in a room, we can't shut off a register without getting permission from the office. (What is the world coming to?)

During Literature class we read a rather dull story. We also about froze out. It was hotter than heck in the room so we opened a window, cooled off a while, roasted a while, cooled off some more, but never did find a happy medium.

McKay took John and me driving. John drove up to Martin, made a swing down Main Street, and headed back to Merriman. I will drive tomorrow.

The rest of the school day was used for study, but I still had to take a Literature assignment home. I guess we talked too much.

We got the mail and groceries, and headed for home. I changed clothes and went outside to try and make myself useful.

Greg Weber had to be taken to Omaha today, so Dad is in charge of Weber's Shovel Ranch at the present. He found one of their cows that had prolapsed, so he brought her home. I helped him sew her up. (I held the tail.) Lloyd took her back to the Pruden Meadow. I caught my bay mare and jogged out to bring in the heavies. Dad helped out with the pickup. We brought them into the corral and sorted out a few to put in the barn. It is sleeting and not too pleasant out.

The congregation of the Episcopal Church are having a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, so we came in with Lloyd as our guest. I felt guilty eating four pancakes, but he put away ten pancakes, plus sausage and fried eggs. Dad, Uncle Stan, Rev. DeWitt, and Rev, Phipps are practicing to sing for Lennie Garner's funeral.
