My dad called last night said he got a set of twins from a hefier, figures the little buggers weigh in at forty a piece. i guess if you put them together that would be an eighty pounder
Yup, I would rather have the 80 pounder. We have had 3 pairs from the first ten cows, to start calving and it has been a pile of work. They all needed help to get going and we lost one twin. We will take them if they come, but I always figured one normal sized calf beats twins.
I guess it depends on the cow. We had one cow that weaned a 625 pound calf every year, always a steer, always identical to the last year's calf. Then she popped out a set of twins. Guess what? She weaned two 625 pound steers, both identical. They were within 5 pounds at weaning, and within 10 pounds when finished.
Weaning 1250 pounds of calf from a 1400 pound cow is not a bad thing.
