Sold the spring str calves off of my 2 yr olds yesterday. 533# brought 1.36 and the 460# draft brought 1.54. Lacked $3.10 of netting $700/hd. They were not weaned and had had only blackleg shot and knife cut in early summer. Some of the buyers said they were headed higher but I don't see how.

haven't checked to see what fats are right now but saw they closed at 94.50 last night on the MERC and I was about in shock, if you asked me this spring I'd have told you we wouldn't see that again for quite sometime.

You know we sold on the Northern video in June and we only got 1.32 for 480# I wonder if we should back out and re sell!!!!!!!!!!??????????

Think of it this way- you probably won't have to worry about any cutbacks... Those are the deals the buyer will hold you to the exact number and weight...Now if they contracted over the going price for them its usually a different deal...

we sold a few weeks ago and got 1.34 out of our 450 pounders... which I felt was extremely well for red cattle in this black cattle area.

If you do that you are breaking a contract and you could go to jail. Whoever bought the cattle may have done something on the board to protect themselves and now that the market has gone up they will have to eat whatever loss there was on that if you don't send the calves.

Well I just looked at the auction report of the local salebarn about 30 miles from here (Nwest TN) and 518# steers averaged $1.20. Cattle east of the Mississippi R. always sell for a lot less it seems.

I think you guy's are misunderstanding heel fly she was jokeing some people are awefully jumpy.

I think you are right on Heel Fly Denny. That is how I took it too.

Yesterday in Belle Fourche, they sold some yearling steers that brought over 1100$/hd by a ways. These were angus yearling steers and they weighed less than 1000#. We sold some tested open heifers that we tested yesterday morning, so they were shrunk pretty good but they brought close to 1000/hd. It was probably the best yearling sale they have ever had.

 Sure makes me wish we had about 10,000 of the little boogers to sell this fall............

I thought they were pretty high last year, when Al had to pay the CowBelles a dollar a pound for a 400 pound heifer, when he paid them for his cow, Blondie.............. Sure glad he got that done last year, instead of waiting like some of the other kids did.

I hope you are right. My statement wasn't just for heel fly but for everyone. Most ranchers don't understand that when some cattle are bought they are loocked in on the board and can make or loss money before they even come to the new owner.

Hey guys for over 100 yrs my family has done business on a hand shake and nothing more, I would never risk that for a few dollars. You can't buy a reputation. It was a joke thanks to the few that saw it that way. I can count back 5 yrs and we were only dreaming of a 1.00. Now we are getting so much more. I was very greatful to the Lord for what we got, He watches out for us and in His eyes backing out on your word is a sin, I try to stay on His good side!!!! No hard feelings :-)
