Not too long ago, I posted on a thread that they were pulling foods from the Asian market but not a word was breathed over here. WHY?? Halloween was around the corner and the candy mfr might lose some money....... however, I found this and why people aren't losing their jobs in the USDA and FDA is totally beyond me.

Please note that grain is contaminated again but no list of what kind.

Protect your family since the government isn't. With dialup I've not watched the video, so I don't know what that content is.

ZHANG:
After a massive inspection of animal feed manufacturers, China's Agricultural Ministry has confiscated and destroyed over 36 hundred tons of melamine-contaminated feed.

The Ministry shut down 238 animal feed producers for illegal activity, says China's state-run media.

CCN reports that an investigation published in the state-run Nanfang Daily revealed that adding melamine to animal feed has become an "open secret." It says the aquatic farming industry in China started using melamine to boost protein level readings five years ago, and it's spread to other industries since then.

Despite the Chinese regime's reassurance that the tainted animal feed problem is marginal, there is a growing concern among global companies about melamine in China's exports.

Several weeks ago, the contaminant was found in exported biscuits and candy, and most recently in eggs. Melamine-contaminated milk has caused at least four infant deaths and sickened over 50 thousand children in China.

US 'import alert' on China food
By Jonathan Beale
BBC News, Washington

Earlier US restrictions were put in place on diary products

US authorities have issued a nationwide "import alert" for Chinese-made food products in the wake of the melamine contamination scandal.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had already issued an alert warning Americans not to consume Chinese products containing milk.

Thousands of Chinese have been poisoned this year.

The latest alert goes beyond dairy products to such items as drinks, sweets, and baby and pet food.

It also allows US inspectors to seize any Chinese products suspected of being contaminated.

Safety issues

The earlier restrictions were put in place on diary products after four Chinese children died from kidney failure and thousands more people fell ill after consuming dairy products laced with melamine - which is normally used in making plastics and fertiliser.

The FDA has now added more than a dozen other goods imported from China, including biscuits, instant coffee and tea products.

In addition, US officials will be travelling to China next week for consultations with the Chinese about safety issues.

The FDA is also planning to open three new offices in China to check products intended for the US market.

Food fraud as being committed when "food is deliberately placed on the market, for financial gain, with the intention of deceiving the consumer".

This may take the form of selling products unfit for human consumption, such as those of unknown origin or which are past their sell-by-date; or misrepresenting food in some way, for example by substituting cheaper alternatives or making misleading statements about its source

I'm glad to hear they've issued an "alert"........... now why aren't they putting this on the local news and pulling products off the shelf?

I expect ANY product and especially food that is sold here to have the same health/production standards as if it was raised/produced here in the USA and we the people aren't getting that. That's one of the reasons I'm finished with buying imported stuff (as much as I can).

There are a lot of biotech's around me in the Portland, ME area, IDEXX for example. Apparently there is a local small company that has a kit to test for this stuff, but for some reason they aren't wanting to ramp up production.

Must be all the pollution and trash we put in the food, that makes my great grandfather wonder why people are living longer now a days, with out being on life support.?

Or maybe it's just waiting for a black president, that's giving people hope, "just hanging on a little longer, I suppose"

"want to see the end of racism, I'm sure"

Melamine Found In 3 Hot Cocoa Mix Being Recalled
ShareThis

December 23, 2008 12:53 p.m. EST

Linda Young - AHN Editor
Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Three cocoa products are being recalled because they may contain the toxic industrial chemical melamine that poisoned and killed children in China when it was put into baby formula, and also sickened and killed people when it was put into toothpaste from China.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of three cocoa products packaged for Christmas. Dorsey Marketing Inc. (DMI) of Ville St. Laurent, Quebec, Canada has voluntarily recalled three of its G&J Gourmet Market Cocoa Products.

The cocoa is being sold nationwide at Big Lots and Shopko stores and might contain melamine, which can cause kidneys to shut down, as well as other problems. Melamine in pet food ingredients from China also sickened and killed many dogs in the U.S. in 2007 and 2008. The toxic chemical is added to milk, wheat and other products to make them appear to contain more protein so that producers and manufacturers can pass off substandard foods for more money.

Cocoa being recalled include G&J Hot Cocoa Stuffer, G&J His and Hers Hot Cocoa Set and G&J Cocoa in French vanilla and double chocolate flavors. No illnesses have been reported yet, but several samples have tested positive for melamine. Consumers should return the tainted hot cocoa to the store where they bought it for a refund.

Melamine has been found in dozens of products exported globally from China prompting numerous international recalls. Those products include milk teas and coffees, yogurts, candies, cookies, biscuits, cheese, eggs, crackers, pet food and toothpaste.

Officials say the eggs became tainted because chickens were fed melamine-tainted feed. Pigs have also been fed melamine-tainted feed.

In addition, melamine is often used in fertilizer, including fertilizer imported into the U.S., but new studies have found it can remain in the land, contaminating it and potentially tainting food crops grown on it.

As far as the tainted milk and baby formula is concerned, Chinese government officials have admitted that nearly 300,000 babies became sick in that country with urinary and kidney problems, including kidney stones linked to melamine tainting and at least six babies died.
