Up and down day, only had 2 calves run off while getting cows and calves into the corral. Getting them into the back corral a big soggy March calf runs back and hits a the pole corral gate... breaking it neck. We get cows off and run them down the alley and vaccinate them. Then there was a break while branding and I call Mom. She tells me my nephew got hit by a car last night and is in the Hospital with a Skull Fracture. Get down to the last 15 calves and the power goes out, we using electric irons. I go and get a generator and the power gets on just as I get back. We finish and try to get a twin calf to suckle the cow who's calf died today . Big titted old bitty we decide be better to sell the cow and we took the calf down and found it mom and sibling . Well except for a couple cows left to calve branding done and I got another cull cow to ship.

His Sister comments late last night
"Sleepy time now! Back to the hospital tomorrow. Praying my most amazing brother can heal from his injuries and his skull can heal with out surgery to screw it back together. It's been a crazy 24 and 1/2 hours of craziness with Brian."

Oh man. Where was the up? Sorry to hear about all that. Some of your post sounds familiar. How far do you think a calf would go when they blow back at gate and take off on a line hellbent on getting as far away as possible? Had one go about six miles and three fences before caught up to him but he seemed to know where he wanted to go just wasn't there yet. Was helping a friend one year take pics of his sale bulls and the bull just did not like being by himself... Slid into a gate head first and hit just right and finally got him to hold still a i guess.

Hope the next one is all up.
