Update Dunn Mountain Fire

Hanta Yo and crew...

Glad to hear the cold front slowed your fire. Hopefully it gives you a hand up to get the fire more under control.

I can totally sympathize with you...two years ago we were in the same predictament you are in almost every day for more than three weeks. If we learned nothing else from our fire experience, we now have a list of things we'd take in an emergency, and we know where they are. Important docs, what is personally important to each of us, etc. I hope everyone sits down and thinks about putting this list together. In 5 minutes, I was able alone to get everything on the list of the house. It included lots of artwork, and some other big things, but because we were prepared, it was relatively easy.

Lazy ace and his brother are now out fighting fire at our neighbors. It is a stack fire, but the wind is blowing over 50 mph here and it must be over 90 degrees right now. Containing it to the stack in a monumental challenge. They are not dealing with anything close to what you are, but if the fire leaves the stackyard, our little community will be.

You are in our thoughts and prayers...hang tough, but be smart too. Remember human life is more valuable than all else. Looking back we did some really dumb things in our big fire two years ago, trying to find and save cows. We didn't lose any livestock, and nobody got hurt, but easily we could have been.

Take care,

TTB

PS Hanta...I don't think you'll have to light any candles Tuesday :)

49 degees with off and on rain.

Is it raining down there?
Glad to hear that the fire is settling down, now they need to jump on it and get it out.

OT talked to a guy who was down in California this summer fighting fires. Told us that California alone sucks up over 75% of the fed money to fight fires, so that leaves the rest of the states with little money for fire suppression.
The guys who are employed by the feds to fight fire don't like the contract guys.

Thanks, TTB and you're right about what you would take with you if you are forced to evacuate. We were faced with that a number of years ago so I have important things like pics in boxes that are easy to grab when in a hurry. I have all our very important papers, etc. in another spot. I know now if I have to leave, I can gather up everything important in a short time. Furniture, etc. is insured.

I remember the pics you posted of your fire, and my heart went out to you guys. Fire is devastating and disheartening. It also brings new growth in the spring with less trees :) Luckily the fire really didn't hurt our need for grass, it's time for the cows to come home and calve.

I pray they were able to contain the fire within the stackyard. Winds 50 mph are not good. Doggone sparks fly out and start more fires. Keep us posted?

Everyone, thanks again for your prayers, we are no longer in danger!

Tuesday will be tooooooo many candles, and you will have 18 less mine :P

You guys take care :)

NOPE, not raining yet, maybe tonight??? Looks hopeful in the sky.

Sure hope the bad part is over with, take care now. With all of the complaints about guvment firefighters, just can't wait for them to take over healthcare.

Yep-- we picked up 1/2 an inch on the river overnite- and .85 up at the north place.... :D And it looks like it could rain more during the day....

Radar shows parts of Phillips County and around the Malta area could have gotten 3-4 inches....

So glad to hear that it rained down there. HURRAY!!!! :D :D :D :D
Was raining here pretty good around 6am. Haven't checked the rain guage yet, so no idea of how much we have gotten. Was 40 degrees here this morning.

Glad to hear you got some much needed rain. I have to give you credit Hanta. You seemed to remain calm and strong in a very bad situation. If it was me ........... well, let's just say, it wouldn't be pretty.

Got around 1.20" of rain. Saw a few snow flakes also.
The mountain passes were showed to have snow on them too.

Hope that fire has been put out.
