A Done Deal

Nice pictures, Ranch Mom. Looks like the job went well and everybody had a good time. I see ol' Tom Cat tied to a trailer in the beer break photo. Did your boys get to try their hand at roping while riding him? He has sure drug out his share through the years, and knows how to do it.

Do you need a rain as bad as we do? It looked so promising last night, but just sprinkled, blew hard, fizzled and fell by the wayside. The thermometer reads 93 degrees here at the moment.

What beautiful weather for a branding and what a good-looking crew ya had there doing the job!!! Thanks for sharing with the rest of us....only next time hand the camera to someone else so ya can get a shot of you on here!! :D

TY soapweed, yes we do need rain, bad. I was so tickled last night when those drops started. The Duke (4) even came running out of bed to tell us "it was going to rain, mom, thank you Lord." We put our cows out to their summer pasture yesterday so the rain could've just come and come. But here too it just fizzled out. All this wind and hot (93) here too have just soaked up any moisture. K_ranch dug a posthole a couple days ago where it should've been muddy and it was just barely moist in the top 2 inches. May not be much stacking to do this summer... Who knows, with the sub-irrigated stuff, a good soaker could still save us. :?

Thanks Ranchwife, but you see that lack of my picture is on purpose... I hogged the camera so there could be no proof of me or my ugly mug. lol
I was busy vaccinating my f-i-l's bunch so no pics of that... glad noone felt comfortable stealing my camera lol. It was a beautiful day. Almost too hot. We had to postpone from Wednesday because it was soo windy it wouldve been miserable. Then there was almost no wind Thursday and hot, then the wind picked up again terrible on Friday... really painful that sand in my eyes and face as I had to ride on the downwind side trailing the pairs to the corrals. and I was downwind again as we sorted. :cry2:
That's ok I love it all... :P

Great Pictures. :-)

Random thoughts:

With your awesome brand, how do you tell if your coming or going? That is a great brand.

You know you are dry when Harding County (here) looks better than your area of SD. We are usually last in the rain bucket dept.

Looks like you had a great crew. Lost of hats around there. :!: I like to see that.

You have a beautiful yard, and ranch site. Hats off to you.

too funny tap, yeah we have a hard time telling up from down around here... serious though we love the brand but I have tried for the 7 years we have been married to think of a ranch type way of saying that brand, I am not original and can only think of arrow up, arrow down. :???:

moisture, yes, we need some, the storms that really hit you brought some, but nothing to speak of since, I am glad you guys have some though because you need it after all the loss from the storm.

yes, the hats deal, k_ranch has a thing about that too!!!! lol I only have his straw that he didn't like so I wear it, have paper towel stuffed in the band to make it fit, too cheap to buy my own but if it's windy... I wreck his pictures with a pink cowgirl ball cap, but I did have a straw on that day. We did have a great crew, lots of fun, nothing too wild.

I wish it were my yard, we have weeds mowed off around a trailer... That is m-i-l's yard and it really is beautiful, shady, sheltered, and all. I wouldn't have that many trees in my yard, I like to see out to the meadow and road and such, so I stick with a couple flower beds, some roses, a nice big deck, and noo trees on the north or east, but we are beside a big shelter belt to the west that protects us from cold winds and such perfectly. Thanks though

Thank-you for the pictures, nice to see them all....really thought the roping one was awesome! I like that your branding was a family affair!

I really enjoyed the pictures. Where were you that you could get shots looking down on things?

Also, that closeup action shot of the calf that is being drug out is a contest winner for sure.
Gee, that's a super picture. Shows so much action. At least think of entering it in the Tri-State photo contest, if they are still having it. Or save it for some contest coming up. I see a lot of photos and that's a great one!!

I can see branding day is a social event there too. Thanks for sharing!

I'd call that brand a lazy spear up; lazy spear down. Let anybody who isn't sure figure it out. I've read alot of brands in the NE brand book with a spear, but I don't recall too many arrows. It might depend on the horizontal orientation.
Other than too hot and too dry, which you haven't monopilized, that looked like a classic branding. Nice soggy calves! Always a good job; better when well done.

GREAT photography work! The cattle are good also. Glad all went well and I am like you-love branding days no matter the weather! I am thinking a large area of the country could use a good soaker. Here in central KS we sure are dry for this area. The pastures are ok for now,but water will be an issue here shortly. Well, hope we all get blessed with rain shortly. Have a great day :)

Nice pictures, thanks for sharing them, Tap beat me to my own thoughts as I looked through the pictures, he must be a genius  That picture that FH is talking about is a very good one, Ya done good :!:

Thanks all, I had fun taking the pics, didn't have a job after the first 10 had their 7-way (the rest had it at birth)... so I actually got to take pictures and nothing else. Mom had the littlest 2 at the house so I didn't have to worry about them... Nice little break.

Mrs. Greg, I liked that roping one a lot, I love when a picture actually shows some action.

Thanks fh thats quite a compliment... I really liked it too. how do I get info on the tri-state? as for the bird's eye view- I had one foot on our grill guard and the other on the first panel of the wing we made for sorting. and was crawling all over pickups to get the others. lol prolly looked like a fool but I have many years of crappy branding pics, wanted some decent ones.

lilly: love the heaven or hell idea

Yep, soapweed calls his the spearhead, but we are waaaay to close of neighbors to steal his name or idea lol :???:

but technically, Neb brands call it spear, SD calls it arrows , Pat made up the brand when he got started, now there are a gozillion arrow brands in the book. hey we could be the arrowhead, we have them all over the place around here (arrowheads from the past)...

We work our help hard with our calves, but feed em well enough they don't mind

Have a great day all, I think we'll go put out some flowers and check the cattle. :!: :!:
