I didn't know we had any of these on Ranchers. :cowboy: :lol2:

:o   :P

Thank you Soap, from one of the 'more sedate, mild-mannered... Ahem...ladies.'

Hi Soap, thought I met you on the hiway today....sort of after the fact. Was headed to town to get a tank to replace the one that the cows destroyed the other night. Sure is easy to find tanks that are about the consistency of tinfoil lately. Say, there's no charge to use our pastures for a background for your photos. :D

Thanks for being so generous. I appreciate it, and so does the camera. :-) I'd give a pretty good tip if you could throw some mountains in on that backdrop.

I'm just a wee bit jealous of the folks on the Spearhead. You look to have a good, solid operation, enjoy what you do, and get to do it nearly every day.

And by the way, I think next year you should hire a hot female calving hand just to show you are equal opportunity :D

I've already got one. Her name is Peach Blossom. :-)

She is a pretty good inventor of better sysems. She has done most of the night calving this year. She rides her little black horse, Clavinova. If there are two cows claiming the same calf, or if a newborn splashes down and it is cold enough to put it in the barn, she uses a "calf hook." These can be purchased at most ranch supply stores. She has a six-foot piece of rope attached to the handle end of the hook, so she rides by, hooks the calf, and dallies the rope to the saddle horn. Then Clavinova does the work of dragging the calf to the new location. When they arrive, she can push the handle back off of the calves leg. It works like a charm.

Yep, I'd be lost without my calf hook. Yesterday I used it to take the sac off of a newborn's nose. The cow was a little tempermental, and so I'm not sure what I would have done without this tool.

Thanks for sharing your photos!

Good save there Soap. you will get an extra scoop of ice cream tonight.

How come it takes two cowboys and a photographer to keep up with one cowgirl?
