Very interesting post. I can remember as a little boy that we sold our cattle at the Kansas City stockyards which I imagine was a similar operation to the Denver market. The cattle were always shipped on a Sunday to arrive in KC on Sunday night for the Monday market. Reps from the commission companies drove thousands of miles in the country through out KS and MO and maybe other states recruiting cattle to be shipped to their comm company. Those guys had the absolute best memory for names and faces of anyone I'd ever seen....even the kids. Sometimes I got to skip school on the Monday to go up with my dad to see the cattle sell. It was a once a year deal. Later on when I had sheep as a high school FFA project I sent them to KC too and always got a personal typed letter from the comm co explaining how they sold and including the check. I believe it was the 1951 flood that destroyed the KC stock yards although the exchange building is still there and used. Brings back some old fun memories.
