Heard someone suggest that training teachers in gun usage is reasonable and that they've done that for some period of time in Australia and Israel.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.....

#1 BIG reason......some of the teachers are nuttier than the bad guys.

Besides they can't even get enough for a decent salary....who's gonna pay for the specialized training that will be required to handle a gun????

They will basically have to go thru SWAT training......that costs money!!!

And who says a student with a grudge won't take it away from the teacher???

Sure. Let the teachers bring guns to school.

The students too if they are over 19 and have a concealed carry permit.

People will think twice before they walk into a school planning to shoot someone.

I also think the public should be allowed to carry guns on airplanes, etc.

911 would not have happened if the passengers had been armed.

That would have meant that Atta & Co. would have had guns....instead of box cutters.

Richard whatshisname, with the shoe bomb....would have had a gun instead of a sneaker that wasa dud.

I'm licensed to carry a pistol and do....BUT...there's a time and place for everything and public schools and public places is just asking for a major shooting every day!!

use your head man!

I think teachers should carry guns. As far as training...that seems silly. Point and pull the trigger. How hard is it?

ATTA and company weren't citizens of the USA and could not have a permit.

I don't think you understand the concept of un-armed people being powerless when threatened by people with guns. When more people are packing, the criminals have less power.

Law abiding people carrying guns can eliminate a lot of our problems.

Literally.

Too many folks depend on the Police to protect them 24 hours a day. Can't happen!

We must police ourselves!

Maybe they ought to put prayer back in school.

Another subject.............

But from what I understand........people may bow their heads and pray in silence at any time during school.

You gonna force people to pray?

Pray for a gun?

I don't think teachers should carry guns. For one.....there's how many kids in a room with 1 teacher??? Be the same as puttin a correctional officer in a prison with a gun.....inmates can over power them and take it away from them. That's why Texas Prison Guards dont' carry guns. (They do have armed Picket bosses tho but not in General population of prisons) Not that all students would do that. But the kinda kids and schools where somethin is needed to take back control, it would be too much of a possiblity.

Good Gosh miss Molly.

So you have a teacher that you can not trust that they might shoot up the place. Stop and think, you trust them with your kids.

If a kook comes into the school and takes hostages, do you want a trained teacher or untrained in weapons and self defense.

If a kook comes in your school and happens to lay their gun down. Do you want a trained teacher to be able to pick it up and defend your kids.

Training isn't that much of an expense, just do away with some feel good liberal inservices.

I think some are hilarious that they won't trust a teacher with a gun but they trust a teacher with the safety of their kids.

I think I know the problem, but what is the answer? (People like that are a dime a dozen). Shootouts or vigilante law in or out of school is out. Our criminals and murders are getting younger; younger people are found at school. The youth are learning no values or consideration of others at home. Prayer at school is indeed there with those that are so inclined, but far to few are so inclined. I was pointing out that when biblical values were a part of most everyone's(school teacher and students) everyday life, squirt guns, rubberbands, and yo-yos were the bigest problem at school. School teachers with arms is a certain no sirry bob with me too.- I'm with Mrs Greg.

Arrest Made in School Shooting Threat
A 41-year-old Holt County Sheriff's Deputy has been
arrested in connection with a telephone threat of violence against schools
in several north-central Nebraska counties. A joint investigation between
the Nebraska State Patrol, Rock and Holt County Sheriff's Offices and the
O'Neill Police Department led to the arrest of Ivan D. Young. Young, of
Beatrice was taken into custody without incident at a Nebraska State Patrol
area office in O'Neill, Thursday, October 5, 2006.

The call placed on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, to a reporter at the
Rock County Leader, indicated a shooting would take place at a school in
Rock or Holt County. Following the call, numerous schools in both
counties were placed in "lock-down" status or dismissed.
Young has been employed as a part-time Deputy with the Holt County
Sheriff's Office since August of this year. The Holt County Sheriff's
Office and Sheriff Bruce Tighe continue to cooperate with the
investigation.
He is being held in the Rock County jail on a charge of Terrorist
Threats.

Heck why not just give them a small tactical nuke while were at it. You can build all the fences, pack all the guns you want etc but somebody crazy enough and determined enough to shoot a bunch of little girls will always get through. I don't think we need to promote and endorse 'high noon' in the sandbox.

Missouri student held in gunfire incident

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - A student fired a gun inside a middle school just before the start of classes Monday but didn't hit anyone, and a school employee was able to talk the shooter into leaving, police and school officials said.

The Memorial Middle School student, whose identity was not released, was in custody, Police Lt. Geoff Jones said.

"It was a very close call," said Joplin R-8 Superintendent Jim Simpson. He said the school's 700 other students were taken to Memorial Hall across the street where they were being picked up by their parents.

The gun was fired at about 7:45 a.m., 10 minutes before school started, Assistant Superintendent Charlotte Miller said. She said an administrator talked the shooter into leaving the building and police quickly apprehend the person.

Joplin, which has about 40,900 residents, is in southwest Missouri, on the Kansas border about 140 miles south of Kansas City.

Schools across the country have been on alert after three deadly school shootings in three states in the span of a week, and several schools have been locked down or closed entirely during the past two weeks because of threats.

In Pennsylvania Amish country Monday morning, church bells tolled across the region in remembrance of the five young girls who were shot to death at their one-room schoolhouse one week earlier.

So.............you just let those little girls stay unprotected everyday?

It's illegal and against Federal Law to have a gun within so many feet of a school now. These nutcases KNOW this!

Nukes.................ridiculous!

Yep- and these nutcases could care less if they violate a Federal Law or any other...

Teachers tend to stress out, some to the point of mental break down. We have one (now retired due to being a head case) teacher who was or still is suspected of murder of a RCMP officer and his girl friend. Do I think I want teachers armed? Not a chance!
