I've already expressed my infatuation with cattle and the Angus breed in particular. That has led me to want to study to become a large animal vet, preferably specializing in cattle. Is that possible to only be a vet for one specie? I'd like to explore bovine genetics, nutrition, reproduction, and how they are all linked together. Eventually, I'd like to produce vaccinations to aid ranchers and farmers with growing healthier, more productive cattle. Yes, I'd love to sell them my Pharo and Ohlde cattle and fix all their problems genetically, but that's not always an easy thing to do. It is still prudent to vaccinate ALL breeds and lines of cattle against disease and no matter what you raise, many people use vaccines to synchronize their cattle for A.I. Well, that's what I want to do in a nutshell. I truly believe the Lord has called me to care for cattle in particular and I would like to affect the entire industry positively if I could. Some short and long term goals there.

You can specializie in just bovine? Here at Texas A&M they have students that do that all the time. You can just about specialize in just about any part of bovine. Here is a link to Texas A&M vet school.

Oh, wow, that's great! I'd love to stick with reproductive and genetics and nutrition. Well, that's a lot, but I'd like to stick with the nutrition such as what supplements a young heifer needs to stay in good shape while trying to breed back and wean a calf. Genetics are very fascinating to me and I'd love to eventually run my own bull collection and cow flushing facility. For the first reply, I do understand that cows can't be my whole life and I certainly don't worship them or anything like that, I just enjoy working with them and studying how to make them more profitable and how to make a living off of them.

Here is a ranch that used to work with beef cattle genetics. But over time they have change their program over to horses. Look at the vet quarter you might find this pretty wild. Remember this is just a ranch that start in 1987 with 150 ac with club calves and now its over 9,000 ac.
