What will they think of next?

Got a call this afternoon on my cell phone. I didn't recognize the number, let alone the area code it was coming from, so I didn't answer it. I figured if it was important, they'd leave a message. They did.

When I called in to check my voicemail, I got a recording from Verizon stating that there had been THREE illegal attempts to get into my voicemail box, all from that strange number. Then I played their message. Some Babe whose voice sounded kinda sultry and sexy was calling for some company in Ohio that was tracking my voicemail, but the password they had wasn't correct. She wanted me to call her back and give her the correct password. WTF????? I don't think I'll be calling her anytime soon, and I promptly deleted any messages my voicemail box had in it, mostly directions as to how to get to pastures to deliver supplement.

Now I'm wondering if a person had a smartphone, could hackers with your voicemail password use it to get into any information your smartphone had in it? (I have a Casio G'zone, just used to make/recieve calls and texts) GAWD!

I don't know the answer to your question, but many times when I check
my voicemail with Verizon, and put in the correct password number, it
will tell me that it's not correct, so I put the same number in again, and
most times it will take it the second time, but not always. So then I
do it a third time and then I get a voicemail telling me someone has
tried three three illegal attempts to get into my voicemail. And it's been
ME. I think they don't have a good system.

Anyway, loomix guy, I hope you find the answer and I hope that you
don't have problems like this in the future. Really fustrating at the least.

I hardly ever have any problems getting into my Verizon voicemail box. Why in the hell would somebody want to go through one's old messages, entertainment purposes? Before the Boss had her hysterectomy last fall they could have learned some new cuss words in some of the messages she left me!!

I guess the hackers & scammers have nothing but time. Shake the trees and something is bound to fall off eventually.

When it comes to personal information, there isn't much these scammers can do with a v.m. password. V.M. Doesn't reside on the phone itself. What they do is change your greeting or setup call forwarding to place international calls through your phone. This started with PBX service and is moving into mobile.

Besides a phone being stolen, Bluetooth in my opinion, is the biggest security threat to cell phones. If you leave it enabled all the time, it gives someone standing across the street the ability to use software to connect and hack into your phone without you even knowing. They then take all the info they grabbed and sell your contacts or if you store credit/banking info well, I don't need to tell you what they do with that.

I am a bit of a hypocrite though, I don't password protect my smartphone. I hate having to type in a password every two seconds.

FH: "So then I do it a third time and then I get a voicemail telling me someone has tried three three illegal attempts to get into my voicemail. And it's been ME."

Judge: "I hearby order you to house arrest for one week for trying to impersonate yourself".

Hehe!
