Don't know about the rest of you, but I have a piece of machinery that I just get a big kick out of using. It is probably one of the smallest pieces I have owned, but it gives me a lot of fun to work or play with. It's a little tandem dump trailer.

For years, we used any old piece of junk with at least 2 decent tires for hauling firewood, gravel, stones or whatever needed hauling. I always wanted a good dump trailer that would make the job faster and easier, but couldn't really afford to pay out the bucks for it.

Finally, a few years ago, I splurged and bought a nice tandem dump trailer that will haul about 4 or 5 yards of gravel or a couple of bush cords of wood.

And I love it.

I got to wondering if any of you have always wanted something and finally broke down and spoiled yourself and bought it. Maybe for the house, barn, field or shop.

I love running the scraper. it is a 9 yard hydraulic push off rig and I just itch for a reason to put it on the 8640. my younger boy was always asking to go fishing, and I rarely had the time, so I hooked up the scraper and we went out and built him a pond behind the house. small little 1 1/2 acre pond, but good enough for bluegill and bullheads. at least there will always be something to bite out there!

the wife helped me shoot it, and we set flags at the spillway and dam ends, then I went to digging.......the whole dam, when I was done was only off 1 tenth ! I was VERY proud of myself.

other than that, any time I can get on an old two lunger John Deere, I am one happy camper !

I guess I shouldn't be so flippant all the time.

I think my favorite thing to do on the ranch is to take a horse and go exploring in some of the coulees and badland areas that we generally don't have to ride when gathering cattle. Funny how places can look so different from another angle.

Hands down it's running my tractor and baler. There's something about a good windrow where you can knock out 20-30 bales an hour. Knowing it's hay you'll have that winter just feels good. It's a 688 New Holland which I pull with a TSA125 New Holland tractor. Unfortunately never made a bale with it this year, or 2004, but knocked out a couple thousand in 05, what a fun year that was! Aw the memories! :-) :-)

My favorite growing up, was my horse.........

Just after I got married, the folks acquired a Yamaha Big Bear 4WD 4 wheeler (I guess to take up the slack after Raven and I left home for good) and that was a great piece of ranch equipment! Almost better than my old horse, but not quite as sure-footed on a steep mountainside......

I bought a hacksaw once but it looked to shiny to use.

Now that was just plain funny! Except that it reminded me too much of my Dad, God rest his soul, who was so, shall we say, "conservation minded" that that is exactly the kind of thing he would do.

So there you go, BMr, you are not alone!

Does greg count as a favorite farm toy :P

I do love the brand new John Deere ride-on tractor greg bought me this summer...it even has lights for night cutting...lol

My dad bought a big round baler in the mid '70's. The dealer brought it to the ranch and was showing him all the places to grease. My dad put on a bewildered look and commented, "Does this mean I'll have to buy a grease gun?"

I thought it was pretty funny at the time. :-)

My D6 Cat ranks pretty high. 'Cept like that hacksaw, I'm afraid of wearing it out. Not cuz its shiny, but because it's expensive to fix
And the box of dynamite for blowing out beaver dams is very cool.
And matches in the spring time.
Say, these are all pretty destructive toys aren't they?? I may have to ponder on the meaning of this for awhile.

Im the same way.
You know for years and years I have operated big trucks, escavaters, dozers, back hoes, loaders, etc.
Now I like to keep things simple. Now my most modern thing is my antique pick up truck but its my horses that keep me sane.

Farm toys... Use t lvoe pushing snow with the front loader we had back about 5 years ago but that lost its charm after the 10th or 20th time I had to do it... Enjoyed baling but after sitting in that tractor for 900 blaes over a 2 week period I have no desire to bale again for at least 6 months. .. The four wheelers are fun for just zippinga round on and to play with but they are a slowly but surely becoming more of a toy and less of a tool and if I can get the money saved up to buy a horse they will even be less of a tool....

I would probably have to go with the quads than for now.. Epsecially sinc eI haven't run one for more than 15 minutes since September probably.

should we really be discussing our favorite toys on a public forum? he he he

Mine has to be either the Allis 7080 with the 688 NH baler behind (I get to sit in the A/C cab all day jammin to Led Zepplin, AC/DC, and Willie, the combine (the 97 not 98 ) cause I get a kick outta that grain goin in there, knwoing youre still improtant. Hey, the captions I make up with the lil brother when I take him for a ride are great too. lol.

I dont think snowmobilesor dirtbikes are tools, an dI dont use the quad all that often. I like the blade hooked up to the NH in the winter, "Meeser Schnowball, Im going to Keeeeeeeeeeeeel you", goes sheldon as he hops in there with me when I have to clean out te yard for the bus :D

I didn't run it much this year but I do have to say the 8 row corn stalk shreader was kind of fun to run behind the big tractor... I think I only ran ift for an hour.. Was kind of boring but there was something about that stuinker just gobbling down 20 feet at a time that was nice.
