Where can we find one? They are made in Saskatoon (yes, NR, I looked up where that was) but we'd like to find a dealer that would be closer.

Do any of you use one of these? We've heard they work really well.
They are hydraulic.

Thanks for any helpful comments or names of dealers.

I'm about to go use one right now. Take a holiday and head up to 'stoon and pick one up. It's the prettiest city in Saskatchewan right now with the leaves changing and the river running through it. They are a very good and SAFE pounder to use. We rent one from our local farm supply for a 100 bucks a day. Catch a WHL game or University hockey and you'll get hooked on it too while your up. I imagine there's dealers in Regina which is about 100 miles from P'wood.

I imagine 10,000 plus Canadian money. The Co-op service centers rent them and sometimes sell their used ones fairly reasonable. I think the two here are for sale for around 4,000 this fall. They are built very strong-I can't see one ever wearing out. The post hugger feature is pretty good to have.

Can you find out about the used ones for me NR?
We are planning on buying one, but not for $10,000. YIKES!!!

I'd sure appreciate it if you would. I imagine they could ship it somehow.
(If we could afford the shipping.) :???:

Or if anyone knows of a Co-op I could contact that would be closer.

They are $4,000 a piece-I think they were new two years ago-they show some use but still work well-they are designed pretty massively so hold up well. The gas engine starts great still-I think it's a Honda. There's a pic of it on that one fencing thread I did awhile back.

...i bought a rental from a co-op that were put up for bids here in central alberta a couple of years ago for 6000... from my experience equipment sells for a bit less in sask... check out the co-ops in southern sask...as a post pounder you won't find any better...

Here's one of the pounders that are for sale.

There was a rental yard around here which had one but it went under and I don't know what happened to the driver.. We don't put in near enough fence to justify owning one (Although if we ever fence the crop fields (12 miles peremiter alone, not to mention if we want to subdiviide them) it might pay to have one.. .Might)..Probably could have justified it with the 12 miiles that we already put in + those miles but maybe not.. I'm not the best fence builder in the world... Nor in Illinois... Probably not in my town even or township for that matter ,lol. MAybe Section as we are the only house in this section

....looks like from the picture nr to be in good condition...one like that here in alberta would be double the price cause of all the fencing bein done in the patch...

Nicest thing about them is that Honda motor. They never give you a minute of trouble, start without fail, hot or cold. If a Wheatheart comes up for sale from our local rental place, we'll consider grabbing it for sure. They're just built so straight forward, if anything does go wrong or break, you can weld it back up or fix it without much hassle.

Thanks for your help, NR. I owe you one.

Mr. FH looked at your photo and wants to make sure it will pound in very
hard ground. When this gumbo dries up, it is like concrete and that
would be some of the area where he would need the pounder.
I doubt that you have gumbo, NR. Have you had any experience pounding
in gumbo ground?

I went to the Wheatheart website and read about them. Does anyone use the extra tall pounder?

We are very interested and are thinking of buying it with a neighbor.
Shoot, I might get a trip to Canada yet!!!
What's your town again, NR?

What is the exchange rate now? I am sure things have
changed and it's pretty close to even.

For the $4000, does that include the Honda motor?

FH if you need a post pounder that will set post in any condition the munro digger driver will. I don't know if it is as user friendly as the wheathart, but it does cost more I think. there website is www.diggerdriver.com

Wheatheart pounders are a great unit. The grazing club I belong to has two of them they rent out. 30 or 40 bucks a day so would never go out and buy one. They get used and abused alot and there has never been any trouble with them. I have about 6 inches of topsoil and then straight gravel. No trouble driving 8 foot brace posts, well unless the top splits off.

Why don't you want the tractor mounted type? That's all we use here and we are in solid flintrock in lots of places or cobble stones about the size of your hand . They will bend some 2 3/8 pipe in our soil.

We have a tractor mounted Danuser driver and it isn't all that good.
Mr. FH gets by with it, but a neighbor mentioned this one and how
good it is. Mr. FH wants to replace all the posts in the lots with wooden
posts. This Wheatheart is supposed to be the best, I guess.

I just said I'd help find one. And thanks to the folks of ranchers.net
(my favorite place on the internet), I was able to do so.

And I might get a trip out of it. YAHOOOOOOOO! :D
