Where was my Camera!!

Went to get our new hounds yesterday after supper-there was a young cow moose grazing along the ditch-we pulled over and she started to trot off-Ty called and she whipped around and came right up on the highway-had her big old ears pricked right up trying to see the moose driving the red hemi. Boy they can be dumb at times-hope we find a couple silly bulls in bow season lol.
 
Hey, NR, our night calver got a moose permit last fall and bagged a moose. He has given us a roast from it. How is the best way to
cook it?

I am not expecting to like it BTW... :wink:

His recommendation was to cook it in a crock pot and that
sounded fine, but since you brought this up, I thought I'd
ask the master. :P
 
Ohh probably the crock pot is best-to be honest after having lived on moose for a few winters I'm not all that crazy about it but most people love it. I usually fillet out the backstraps and just sausage the rest or make hamburger -mix a little pork in it. The key with all wild meat is trim 'ALL' the fat off it. My Dad was an awesome wild game cook-cut it into strips and stir fry is pretty good too. A dry cow is the best eating moose to shoot.
 
A midwestern white tail yearling doe is about as good tasting as anything but I would compare it more to Lamb than to beef... I always felt the same way when people would talk about how great Bison meat was.. I have had it a bunch of times and guess what, it isn't all that great IMO. I guess I just like beef... And Pork... And lamb.... And venison.....Okay fine, I am a carnivore :shock:
 
Most of it is ok-as long as it isn't too old-then it seems to get really gamey tasting. lol. I haver to admit it-smoked beaver si pretty close to as good as tasting to pork, but beef si in a class of it's own. lol. :wink:
 
Faster Horses-wild meat is only as good as the cook and the cook I married serves it up darn tasty-we eat a dozen or so deer a year here and a couple beef a year too-kind of a carnivourous bunch. I've never tasted any wild game in my life that was as gross as the twenty buck steak I had at the 'Blue Moon' in Plentywood ,Montana I just about had to jacklight a skunk to get the taste out of my mouth.
