Soapweed and I both ride Shimon saddles. It is very comfortable and fits the horse very good. The workmanship isn't what you get on a truly hand made saddle but they are stout. :D
I picked one up when he lived in Thermopilis Wyoming. My son likes it and needs a new saddle so he is taking mine and I am in the market for another one. A friend is making saddles so I might buy one from her but I do like my Shimon saddle.
Old Ralph has been building saddles for ever. Quite the fellow to visit with. Give him a call and let us know how you make out.
 
Those look like pretty nice saddles, Haymaker. I have heard
from friends in Texas that Big Bend Saddles are good.
One thing about these, they are already BROKE IN.

At one time, Shimon had some kids working for hiim and hte
saddles they turned out weren't very good. But I know folks that
ride them that are really happy with them as BMR and Soapweed are.

I read an article written by someone that worked in a horse slaughter plant and he said you can't believe what they find in the backs of
horses when they are skinned.

Good for you for noticiiing the 'dry' spots on your horse. Haymaker.
That could be some of the reason you're having them hump up with you.
Pain causes horses to do painful things...
 
I have had three Shimon saddles through the years. The first one was purchased in 1974 when Ralph lived at Brush, CO. The cost would have been $400 complete with stirrups, latigos, and chinches, but I added another $35 and got all sterling silver conchos. The next one I bought in 1986 when Ralph lived in Torrington, WY. I think it cost $1500 at the time. The last Shimon saddle was a trade-in at Harry Adams' saddle shop in Valentine. It was hardly used at all, and I paid $1100 for it complete with new brass conchos.

Through the years, I've tried other saddles, but always come back to liking Ralph Shimon's the best. They fit me, and I've never sored a horse with one of his saddles. I should get another one while he still makes them.

Could be but I doubt it,I been pinching around on their withers/back,before and after saddlin and get no response,I think the fact they are being fed right and young has more to do with the crow hoppin,that bay likes to show off a lil in the morning as soon as he sees me he comes runnin and starts crow hoppin around,settles good for saddlin,then may jump a little before he is ready to work,maybe he is checkin to see if Im awake :D

My saddle was made by Earl Twist. I googled Earl Twist saddles and this came up. I thought it was a neat picture. All are Earl Twist saddles; however mine is a roping saddle, not a Wade as these are.
