Got a nice note from Microsoft this morning that Microsoft is ending all support on April 8. Since XP will not accept/ support their "Upgrade" the other solution is to buy a new PC.

Isn't technology wonderful. Wonder how many more miles of end to end 20's this will make them?

I had XP since 1992, and just recently my computer quit so now I am using windows 7. Some programs that I ran on XP won't work on windows 7, so will have to adjust for that.
I am still using XP at our business (since 1996), and will have to see how we get along with that. I am supposing that except for some upgrades, it will still do the job. The main program is QuickBooks, and also need internet to order products and search for some parts on internet. I had been using Wordperfect 8 quite a bit, and a zip drive, and now neither will work right on 7, so am using the PC at work to transfer to memory sticks and convert to Microsoft works.

We have used QuickBooks since 1992 when it was a DOS program.

I got the shock of my life when my old computer went belly up- and my wife bought me a new one for my birthday with Windows 8.1... I am slowly learning how to do most the things I could before- and a few new ones... But I have heard folks with a lot more computer experience and knowledge than me cussing 8.1... The other day a lady meteorologist that uses computers daily in her work called 8.1 "scary"..

If your not using it for internet, there is no reason you would need to switch to anything else. But the security loopholes in XP will grow larger and larger without continual patches to fix them in updates, which equals problems for those connected to the rest of the world. I am surprised that they didn't discontinue service for XP a couple years ago, as it is a big reason why Windows 8 was a flop.

If you go with a new computer, get one with Windows 7, it is most like XP. I haven't used Windows 8, but I am told by many it is as bad as Vista, and I hated Vista with a passion.

If you want the latest and greatest, you might be able to hold on till Windows 9, which comes out Fall of 2015 I believe.

I got a new computer with windows 8 and had a hell of a time figuring it out then they did an upgrade to 8.1 and is much nicer still figuring out what all it does but not to bad to work with. just my 2 cents
