8) Are us Canucks gettin soft?Getting winter here, but have seen worse.Just this morning telling son about the winters we used to have, and what he should be putting in his truck--He has never been stuck in a snow drift miles from next light(without cellphone). Didn't seem to care? Must take after his mother?

I'm still somewhat paronoid but feel a little better since we got a new truck. When we go someplace "good", I'll probably still pack the big green garbage bag with our chore clothes though :? Our cell service isn't great around here.

It's -26C / windchill -42C with enough snow that when I feed the bottom of the pails drag in the snow drifts. I'm going to buy the hubby a 500 bushel bin for Christmas .... to be parked in the heifer pen!!

This could have held off another week. Our steers go Friday and I hope the buyer appreciates the shrink they'll be coming with!

It is kind of an old fashioned winter so far isn't it? I haven't shut my truck off for 5 days. It's -40 here right now, and a bit of a fresh breeze.
I work in the winter as a construction foreman building oil leases and roads, and this morning where we were working it was -50C at about sunup. But it warmed right up to -20 during the day.
The water for our heifer calves froze a couple of days ago, and it can stay that way till it's a touch warmer. Seem to be having some bad luck with waterers this year, I hope it's just early winter bad luck.

Whoa Silver - I feel quilty complaining about our temps. I've only seen -50 once.... when we lived in a mobile trailer home - a misnomer because not much was moving!!

I sure hope you draw a good wage at -50

I think the coldest I have ever had to deal with was between -20 and -30 before the windchill... The coldest I ever was was standing on top of an l platformm in Evanston Illinois at 6am in Feb of 1996.. Oh god was that wind coming off the lake cold.. I think it was only something like -20 but god that wind just was blowing and being 15 feet in the air over a road that was acting like a wind tunnel...

The coldest I remember being in MOntana was a -28 or something like that in the winter of 96/97.. Had some beer in the back seat of the jeep, parked in an attatchd garage that froze solid int a beercicle and burt the glass.. It was cold.. Around here we had -20 something last year with -8 as a high.. That stunk but at least it was sunny.

Shoot, it's nice and sunny where I am. Been about low 60's to 70 for a week.

Course I never said where I was at either.

Guesses?

Vegas

There's nothing like skating on natural ice when it's -40-been there done that many times. -20 or 30 isn't really that cold if no wind at all-we hunt in it without all that heavy of clothes on. The warmest footwear are raw wool socks inside moosehide moccasins-if you keep moving your feet hardly get cold.

Well Tap,sorry I don't really know where you are  But wherever it is has got to be better then a -40 with a windchill and tons of snow.Yup I'm soft, haven't had a winter like this in years and guess what I didn't miss it :? gregs right about the cell phone thing though...I like having one, although when I got home from work tonight, gregs sound asleep, doesn't even know I'm home, yup a cell phones a handy thing, bet he wouldn't have even heard it ring :?

Well, I for one like having four distinct seasons, and wouldn't have it any other way. That and any place that's in the 70's at this time of year is uninhabital by humans for at least 2 seasons of the year (in my humble opinion). I like the cold, although -25 is cold enough really. I'm not built to handle the heat so I guess it's good I'm where I'm at.
You can allways put more wood on the fire or more clothes on, but there's only so many clothes you can take off and even less you can take off without causing quite a stir!

Those pics look like San Diego to me.

You got it. Just got back home. Got off the plane (after a 6.5 hr. wait on a missed flight) and it was 8 degrees in Rapid City. I like this area better to live in even if San Diego is BEAUTIFUL!!! Too many people for me.

I thought the Coronado bridge would give it away for sure. Did you notice the jet landing in the other picture? I tried to take it so it looked like it was landing right in amoungst town.

I didn't see anything past the fact that there was no snow, and no horizontal blowing snow...That was enough for me....Last time I came back from Vegas where it was 60-70, we flew into a snowstorm in Billings...Kind of a shocker to the body......

Them weather boys are predicting more snow for today... Already got 6 or 7" and over a foot up by the border-- except its all blew into the coulees or drifts...Or like the neighbor lady said, she thinks it all blew to ND.....
