With my Sloooow downspeed I'm not going to try to download.
I thought I would give the results of the winter rye grazing here in Indiana.
With the drought the ASCS office paid us to plant winter rye for the cattle. The rules were planted between Oct 1st and Nov 1st and no grazing till the rye reached 6" or Nov 15th With the wet and warm December we had I thought we would get a great crop.
We planted ( drilled ) 60 acres on Oct 3rd and it came right up but never grew more than about 3" so I finally turned the cows on it the second week of Jan. I can't see much for them to eat but they have gone from a round bale every other day to a round bale a week and seem very content.
My son drilled about 70 acres at his house with much the same results - - - - to look at it you would think there is nothing there but the cows ( shorthorns if you can believe it ) spend most of their time out on the rye and have left the hay alone. Hopefully we will get enough good from it to get us thru the winter. We both culled very heavily and early so that helped.
Yesterday's feedlot in right foreground...day before yesterday's right top...tomorrow's in left foreground
Come and get it!!!! Whoops...stopped by the tape!
Cows on grass...they only get a few hours a day...or every other day...depending on growth rate...
Can't see it in the picture, but there is a wire on either side of the group...something somebody called "control grazing".
Where'd my girls go???? I don't get any of that green stuff?????
