Yellow Alfalfa

You're not alone, it's freezing on our mountain too. Last years seeding looks like a 75% write-off. I guess my crop ins. will pay enough for some more seed.
I am looking on the bright side though. What's a little cold- compared to what the mid-west US is going through the last month. I'll take the mountains.

We have brome and alfalfa that's 12-18" high, and it was starting to turn yellow last week before the rain came. We were getting pretty worried. We've had real spotty, patchy showers for a week now, and it's added up to 1 inch so far. It's supposed to keep up for the rest of this week, and we're sure thankful for it.

One week ago I was telling the neighbour not to worry, that we'd get rain soon. His canola wasn't germinating at all, and our grass was burning up. I was being positive and hiding my own fears, but my optimism is feeling fairly reinforced now.

Best of luck to you jodywy. Things will get better.

we have 300 bales of prime dairy hay for sale. only laid on the ground 3 weeks and had 8 1/2 inches of rain on it......

the most sickening 3 weeks of my life watching that hay deteriorate.....

UGH! It's been a very strange spring to say the least  . I think there's only been ten days since last November that I haven't worn my winter clothes... global warming  .

In the last 6 hours we have had 1 tornado warning and 2 severe thunderstorm warnings :x Still is rumbling outside now. So far in June we are 7 inches ABOVE normal for rainfall. Many places in Iowa are completely flooded out. I think most river basins are overflowing. The TV has been constant weather warnings for the last two weeks. Many crops to plant yet. Those which are up are very yellow due to cool wet conditions. This afternoon came across two bulls with footrot and one with pinkeye  I don't know if "normal" will ever return. Try as I might, my glass seems to be half MT

Thanks for the perspective
On second thought, I guess I should not abbreviate. I think I would love it if I could have 1/2 of MT in my glass.......however, my glass seems to always be half empty :P :P :P

not what we planted, but its that way because of these 26 and 28 degree mornings....

I can sure sympathize with your frosted alfalfa, down to 21 degrees here on Monday and about 30 degrees this morning. The stand I seeded last summer took the most punishment, some frozen to the ground. The older stands had the top 5" or so burned pretty bad.

It frosted our meadows late. Now we've finally got the rain, but up until today it's been cold enough for a sweater. This weather is just crazy. :?

Jigs I think I'd have to take up drinking in that situation and I don't like beer.
