Yesterday (Saturday) we preg-checked and processed our last bunch of cows. Their heifer calves were weaned on Thursday and were bawling on the other side of the barn. These "replacement" heifer calves will be wintered and bred to low-birthweight bulls next summer. It was a delightfully warm windless day for late November.

It has been said to never trust a skinny cook, but I trust these two. :-)

Don't blame ya Soap, I believe I'd trust 'em too..... We pregged yesterday too. 3 blanks on 113, and one real late (like July) heifer. She'd probably slipped, then rebred. I have had reports of dogs running those heifers last summer, so I will blame that. I was pleased especially with the drought conditions until August.

Good weather, good crew and good food when processing cows. It doesn't get much better than that. Ours are done except for weaning the replacement heifers.
