I received a catalog that had this in it: Called 3 months of steak (must
be a new marketing scheme). You get restaurant quality beef cuts from Double R Ranch Co. Four 7 oz filet mignons, four 16-oz porterhouse steaks and four 12-oz ribeyes. $50 delivery charge. Price: $329.95!

That comes to 140 oz of top cuts of beef--8.75#. $379.95. YIKES!

Wow, $43.42 a pound, makes one wonder who in their right mind would sucker into a deal like that.
Does the Chef come with it

At least it is high quality beef instead of fancy turkey!

There is an article in a current advertiser magazine for farm implements, I believe, touting the methods of a self proclaimed rich woman farmer (from cosmetics, I think she said) who is now doing her own thing raising food organically/humanely/or whatever.

She stated that she sold turkeys for over $200.00, each!!!! And I believe she said they were 16 or 18 pounds, tho I could have that weight mixed up with another story about turkeys read lately.

They were in a colorful, interesting looking flock, but that sure is a lot of money for most people.

Too bad some people demand ALL food be produced organically/humanely/respected, etc. don't realize not many people in this world can afford that luxury.

I guess they don't give Wagyu beef away do they?

It doesn't say Wagyu. Is that what Double R Ranch Co beef is?
How do they figure 8.75# is 3 months supply?

I googled the outfit, looks like that's what they sell.
If I paid that kind of money for my beef I'd figure out a way to make it last three months at least!

Snickers Candy bars come out to $15.29 per lb. in my home town beef in our store is a better deal than that.

Denny has a wonderful point and one we can all use when discussing beef prices with folks who don't understand what it takes to make a decent living in our industry. Even bottled water is very expensive if ya calculate the per gallon cost. Beef is still very competitive at the retail level and a great buy at the wholesale level. Nutrition and taste should always trump price. It does in every aspect of the "Whole Foods" movement. I have a neighbor who sells Berkshire fat hogs for $750+ not including processing charges! He has a 3 month backlog of folks wanting his pork. Price is about 10th on the list of questions they ask. He markets the eating experience and is doing fabulous.

Marketing was the big challenge when we started out selling "grass fed". Slowly figured it out thru trial`n`error" that everybody wants a "story". We started inviting our beef customers, all from the city, of course, down to the ranch to pick up their beef orders. We put on a couple of big roasts, etc & make a day out in the country for these folks. I`ve got a big Longhorn steer who was bottle fed so he`s plumb gentle & the kids can pet him & get their pictures taken. We used to have our customers pick up their beef at the local abattoir but realized that wasn`t what they wanted as part of the "experience". Now we have a long waiting list & twice a year my "business manager" puts the price up by 20 cents/lb. No complaints at all!
I guess direct marketing is a whole other thread. Didn`t mean to hijack this one.

I don't feel you hijacked it. Marketing is part of the topic. We have a member of the forum who does an excellent job of marketing his beef. PPRM delivers to their customers. When we were at the Pendleton Roundup last year we met up with him and his lovely wife and took some of his beef to our friends in Washington state. They couldn't believe the difference between his beef and what they buy though the store.
