    Sick calf question

We get that once in awhile here in the feedlot we call them "brainers". Treat with vitamin b and some type of anti inflamitory and hope for the best most times they never get better. The other cause of concern is nervous coccidiosis and sometimes with this there is no blood in the stool. But the...

    Bull Lease

I have leased bulls in the past for all sorts of reasons. I was paying somewhere in the neighborhood of 750 and the people I was leasing from took all responsibility. I have also leased bulls to other people generally an older bull or one that was on the hit list for one reason or another. My...

    fence charger's

I have a bit of everything red snapper Gallagher parmak zereba and speed rite. They all seem to work but I will have to say the speed rite is probably my favorite with Gallagher being my least. Seems the only Gallagher that I can get to work it a 12 volt that has a car battery in it. The biggest...

    Vermeer Rancher balers

We sure like our super m's. And a couple guys have the N series and are getting along with them. But how is the resale value on the rancher or would it be better to get an M or N and not make the bales so big.

    raising twins

At my place if the stars all align she will raise them both. But like so many of us know you will some how need the extra calf for one reason or another. I have been working with a kid that will raise the bottle calf run them as yearlings and then sell them he gives me my cut right off the top...

    Banding calves at birth?

If what is discussed is true, then that would mean any shots given at birth or before 2-3 weeks of age are useless. But each to there own if something works at your place do it and if not don't. It almost gets to the point where guys in my area have more vaccine in a new born then colostrum.

A tale of bull to cow ratio and the results

Was 1:30 just rounded the cow number for conversation sake. The point being when you talk to people they will say oh I never put more then 15-20 twenty with a bull. And for what bulls are costing if you have them cover a few more cows a guy can save himself a few thousand a year on the bull battery.

A tale of bull to cow ratio and the results

Last year I turned out 18 bulls with 530 cows. Majority of the bulls where yearling and 18 month old bulls with the balance being 3-3/12 year olds and one older bull turned out July 10 for 60 days when we preg checked this fall I had 5 opens one was a sewed up job and one was a leg dragger. IMHO...

What calf table do you like?

I bought a Sandland design made by bz welding out of Watertown sd. Not a bad outfit I made a slight modification to the body cradle other then that works great. I wouldn't say it's any faster then a manual style but it is sure a lot easier on the body. And yes like any other place the cow calf...

    Calf catcher

I have a safety zone catcher. This is my second one first one lasted me about 8 years. My thoughts on building one is make sure there is enough savings in building your own. There are so many times a person can spend more trying to DIY then just calling a dealer and writing the check. I know...

    Featherlite Aluminum

I have had two featherlites in my life. Wouldn't go back floors were slippery, door hinges were slopped out after year and the tires were no good on them always had one with a bubble on the side wall. If you have a chance look at how much manure is on the roof in a featherlite shows a guy how...

    Picking up baling net wrap

That's great. Does it have a trip system in case a person was to snag a rock. Because I can see my self talking on the phone and going over the handle bars.

    Banding calves at birth?

I band everything at birth tag, and if possible sort for pastures. It works best to let them dry off if possible, but if there is something that born when I am out tagging I will just to them and go about my day. The only bit of advice I can give you is make sure you have a "Full Set" before...
