Hi. I'm new. I'm 30 from Indiana. I was raised on a small farm. I would like to get on at a ranch where I could stay and learn how to do bigger scale operation and run a bigger ranch someday. I'm honest, I'm an Ox, I am willing to learn and help out as much as I can.

Where do I even begin to do something like this.

Did you send me a resume over on CT a month or so ago? My advise is to make up a short resume that includes what you are looking for and a contact number. Post at sale yards and livestock supply stores.
I do know a fence builder who may be looking for help if that interests you.

Oh that's a great idea. I never thought of that. No I never sent a resume. I didn't think what little I know as a farm boy could make a very impressive resume. Mainly i know how to build stuff. 🤣 I'm able to ride horses but I could be better. I'm basically green on every other aspect. Im good with animals and I'm not shy of em. Definitely will build a resume though. 😅

What is CT?
Cattle Today. Another cattle discussion website. A young man from Indiana sent me a message on there looking to move this way to work. He sent me a resume. I share it with a couple guys. The one problem here locally is the general lack of available housing thus ranchers provide housing for employees. One guy was kind of interested but he told me there is simply no where for this new guy to live.
It wouldn't take a big resume. Keep it simple. Mostly looking for work and am willing to work and contact information.

I'll keep it simple for sure. But yeah I understand about the no place to put someone that's why I'm just kinda looking around doing the odd fence job and helping around my aunt's farm until I find someone willing to take on an intern. I just saw u say you know someone who builds fences. For now id really jump at some more consistent work is helpful on the West Coast?

Oregon is considered by most to be the west coast. But I am not far from Idaho. I lived 40 miles from the ocean for a lot of years. But there is a huge difference between western and eastern Oregon and Washington. Big fires in eastern Oregon last year burned over a million acres.. There is plenty of fence needing to be built. And I think all the fence builders are looking for help.

You wouldn't happen to know anyone I could get a contact number for? Or I could give you mine and pass it along to them. This forum is actually pretty cool and helpful. 😅 I don't know why I didn't do this before. 🤣
I think fencing would be a good way to meet ranchers. You could use it as a stepping stone to get closer to what you want to do. There is a shortage of ranch workers, so that should be in your favor.
Good luck!

What Faster Horses said above is exactly what I was going to say.Great way to move on from one job to what you want to be doing.People notice hard working young men.

Right. I've been doing a few odd jobs but I was looking consistent work and a place where they could practically teach me. That lead me here. This site is really cool. Lotta helpful ppl.

Well you could send me your contact number. I was going to make a couple phone calls and get numbers for you but I just found out there is a fire down by Rye Valley. So all my neighbors are busy playing fire fighter right now. Also if you were to write up a single page flyer of you looking for work with your contact information I can post it at the sale barns and the livestock supply. Just send that information PM to me.
