    Back in Bizness

Put fresh irons, tags, and some vaccinations into the new recruits the other night. Hard to brand in twilight, but judging in the daylight, most of the irons should be legible. The earlier purchases seemed to respond well to a jab of MultiMin 90 and taking it easy. Made sure all my "steers" were...

    Back in Bizness

Thanks FH! I think you folks that have stuck around are just about the best I've ever interacted with. I just think back to Cattle Today and some of the other whizzing matches on here and other places when they were really popular. I like to see people trying! Even if they need a little...

    Back in Bizness

Been out of the cow deal for nearly 4 years. Out of the horse deal for a year and half. Hadn't had a dog in nearly 3 years. Be back in all 3, plus chicks, before the end of March. Set me to thinking pretty hard about things, especially the old forums and the new Facebook groups where people get...

    Rancher's Persists

Yeap, we are still in Colorado. Just on the very far eastern edge of it now. I recently remarked to my wife that being married to me was certainly an adventure, if not a rather difficult endeavor. We really don't have a single thing to complain about, I am simply a perfectionist, but an abused...

    Rancher's Persists

Great to see this corner of the big old internet is still alive and well. We have purchased our first home, flooded the basement of said home, and remodeled basement of said home so far this year. Added a fourth baby. 2 boys and 2 girls now. Positively perfect creatures. I quit construction for...

    I need a Jackass...

Wished we could find anything at that price point. I don't believe in feeding ruminants super green/delicate feed! It doesn't appear to exist up here. If it does, trucking it in at $6/mile kills the deal pretty rapidly. Best deal Dad has found is $135/bale on 800 lb oat hay. Cows are cleaning...

    I need a Jackass...

"My" ewes brought $470/hd yesterday, and I had gotten a haul quote with another group of lambs headed for CO at over $100/hd. $570/hd plus hay being $300/ton didn't quite work out on paper. So, good luck to the new owner, hope they have great success with them.

    I need a Jackass...

Always learn something! Never knew the 'mop dogs' were bonafide killers. Well, we will see if it's possible to get a pup in here. Herding sheep is not the concern, it's essentially strictly protection. We'd like to be able to use whatever guard creature in concert with chickens. Going to...

    I need a Jackass...

Not for my wife, she's already married to one! ;) Seriously, I need a little help getting a donkey and/or mature guard dog tracked down. I'm fixing to jump head first into the shallow end of the sheep raising pool, and I need assistance on the predator prevention side of things. Of course, I...

    Cows are home

Well sir, cattle look most excellent! And as a fellow father, we are certainly willing to go to prison, but they'd just as soon have us home. Of course, it is winter, and folks are known to have nasty accidents on ice around the house.

FH, I did share photos of her right when I bought her. She was “broke” when she came to us at 3 years old. Sold her a lot more experienced and a heck of a lot safer at 5 😅 The little ones are quite an amazing thing. We love em all dearly. Awesome to see them grow and sad to see them grow.

Little crane action from the other day. Another big custom going in right up the road from the home place. Drove through some of western NE Sandhills after selling the horse. Littles at a wheat threshing this fall. Littlest on the mare. She moved to Nebraska this fall. Chubby hogs...

Boy, that year went fast didn't it? All I accomplished was getting older, spending more money, paying more taxes, and doing more work. We took a break from adding another child this year, and instead just added another rifle to the collection. Kids are growing, life is going too fast, and...

    State of Ag Canada/US Alike

Cash and futures alike are simply on FIRE. All the way around too, from cattle to grains. Prices feel like they are akin to an inflating balloon. ;) Be interesting to see where this all lands, but it's about high time the cattlemen and feeders alike got paid for their scarce and highly sought...

    It's been a loooong winter

Kind of weird reading something I wrote at age 15. Nearly impossible to comprehend that it's been that long ago. Was really a thriving website back in the day. Kind of before the advent of all the really big social media sites, or at least before their adoption hit critical mass. And then...

    Canadian Coyotes

Wowza.... Sounds like I might be stuck inside the good old US of A for a while. And I really would like to get up and see that country once. Oh well, after the glorious revolution, I'll finally be able to meet my Canadian internet friends.

    Canadian Coyotes

What'd be the rules on a fellow going north of the border, knocking down a few doggies, and hauling their hides back? My couple experiences with Canuck border control were unpleasant to say the least, and in those days I wasn't even toting a firearm. I would imagine up in that tundra they'd be...

Ranching spirit alive and well! GCreek, that sort of optimism has been keeping this industry going for a couple hundred years. Might last a couple hundred more at that rate. Good to hear y'all are so dedicated to this deal. Makes me smile.

    Howdy

On the up side, I think there's a lot of opportunity for people that want to grow food and sell it. Wouldn't hurt us to get a little diversity and INCONSISTENCY into our food system in some places. Every change we don't like surely can lead to some sort of new opportunities.
