    Question for the board

Soapweed, I remembered seeing something about this in Progressive Farmer this month. It as a side bar on page 8 (December issue) Basically it was saying that a normal tax return filed on time can be audited up to three years after the date of filing. If there was a large understatement of...

First deer since I met my wife, hmmmm...

A neighbor of mine gave me rights to hunt his place this year. Second Saturday of the season I took a nice doe for the freezer. After skinning her out, I entered the kill on the Wildlife Resources website and realized this was the first deer I'd taken since I met my wife....(nearly 7 years) Is...

Moving Hay In (lots of pictures)

My dad and I replaced an old oak deck on a 24' flatbed with similar stuff about 15 years ago. The trailer was only a couple hundred pounds heavier, but that floor is still going strong. You have to knock loose hay off of it, and it can get icy, but alot of stuff just falls through it. The stuff...

Can someone help me out with a silage question?

Whitewing, A couple of things about nitrates- You can dilute the amount of nitrates in an animal's total diet by feeding a nitrate containing forage with a "clean" forage. So possibly feeding a nitrate free hay free choice and limit feeding the silage if the nitrate levels are high. Here's a...

    Southwest NEBRASKA

Is the county fair in Imperial? I think I played music there. I know we played in Haigler at a little afternoon music festival, then went somewhere north of there to play at a fair, and a fellow told me he was from Holyoke CO and it wasn't far away... Nice country out there, and great people. We...

    Unwanted Horse Issue

Thanks for the link. There's been a lot of debate about the slaughter issue here. I've been told that, Of states that do not have a racing facility, NC has the highest horse population. I personally do believe that the abuse/neglect problem is growing here if nowhere else. Particularly in light...

    Bull turnout

Funny, those high headed witches always get me thinking about target practice, too. 8) On a positive note, I like the body on those critters! A lot of depth and capacity to them. Looks like you've got a good fit for that country up there; I know I'd need to grow alot of hair to tolerate 40...

    Feeding green hay?

I'm confused, you said you'll have these extra head for 33 more days, and you have a 3 month supply of hay... and that the hay is 4+ years old and it would be nice to have some new hay stockpiled... So can't you just feed that old hay till the buyer picks up his bred heifers and make hay as...

    planting

Sorry HayMaker, I deleted that post cause I got to thinking maybe I was highjacking a thread and I posted a new thread asking what folks grow for forage. Thanks for the reply. Maybe there'll be some interesting responses on the other thread, too. Dan

    What forages do you grow?

Just curious what some of you folks plant for pasture or hay (or have growing native.) Around here it's mostly coastal bermudagrass, folks who have some heavier land, like river bottoms, can grow fescue. Alot of folks overseed rye and/or ryegrass in fall and some grow some summer annual grasses...

    Monday, April 13, 2009

I tell you, I played with a bluegrass band in 2003 that played in NE a couple of times that year. I absolutely loved Nebraska! Some mighty fine folks out there. I've travelled all over the lower 48 pickin and singing and I think I'd head to Haigler NE if I had my choice. Your pictures just...

    Pickup Bale Bed

I guess I'm hi-jacking an old thread, but I'm new here and not scared to skin my ignorance  , so here goes. Ya'll mentioned "cakers" on those bale beds, and I've seen "cake" mentioned in alot of posts. What is cake? Liquid protein supplement? I'll retreat now... BTW, I've really...
